Book 2 of the "As Long As You Can Reach Me!" Book series!
"Hey, Maddie!" I said putting on my biggest smile. Maddie crossed her arms. I felt guilty. I told her I wouldn't go with her, but instead I went with Joel. This wasn't the first time I did this either.
"Lizzie how could you! I know you love him and whatever but against your own sister?" Maddie rolled her eyes in line. Anddddd there she goes planting a knife into my heart.
"Maddie, I'm soo sorry! How can I make it up to you?" I asked her. She sighed.
"It hurts me, Lizzie. I get no attention at all. And it doesn't bother me in the way that I'm an attention hog, but I feel like you don't even care about me anymore." Maddie exaggerated.
"Maddie it was my fault. I was the one who suggested it. I didn't know. I'm sorry." Joel apologized.
"It's okay, JB." Maddie sighed and relaxed. Maddie and Joel were good friends. Maddie used to call Joel "JoelBeans" but she ended up shortening it to "JB".
"I'm sorry too, Maddie." I said and blew her a kiss. She shrugged.
"Okay. Have fun." She said winked and started to board her car with London.
"Lizzie I'm sorry-" Joel started but i stopped him.
"It's okay. She just gets a little moody." I laughed and leaned my head against his chest.
"Up for those swings?" He asked me. I nodded and chuckled. Now, let the real fun begin!
*
"The wind is so powerful!" I screamed from my red swing. He was one swing ahead of me.
"WHAT?" He yelled back.
"THE WIND IS SO-" I went into a little coughing fit. "POWERFUL!"
"YEAH!" He yelled back. I looked over at the Ferris Wheel, the Bumper Cars, the Food Stands, The Carousel, and The Big Frog Hopper! I saw a little fire in the corner, in a fire place for warm heat if you got cold. The ride started to lower. I laughed as my stomach felt as if it was dropping.
"Lizzie...look." Joel said and pointed over to a little girl by the fire place. She had brown hair. She looked about 5 or 6. She went to go put her hands in the fire.
A women screamed louder then anyone on the rides. The fire pit tipped over, causing scrambling people everywhere.
"JOEL WE HAVE TO GET OFF THIS RIDE!" I screamed as we were still being lowered.
"LIZZIE IT WILL BE-" he started. The fire was spreading. It was now moving towards the Himalaya. I un-clipped the little seatbelt thingy.
Me and Joel took of running. I looked back, and saw the Himalaya on fire, with an employee trapped in a box. It was moving onto the Ferris wheel. Maddie was on the Ferris wheel. MADDIE!
"Joel! I have to go get Maddie!" I screamed and let go of his hand. He ran right next to me and scooped me up. I was screaming.
"No! I can't lose you! She can make it out alive, I believe she will!" He yelled and ran back towards his car.

I buried my wet face into his chest and sobbed. I hoped to the ends of the earth that Maddie would be okay. She was a fighter. She would be okay.

Joel had to buckle me in because I was too paralyzed to do it myself. I turned my head and watched the swings we were just in become ash.
"Do you want to go the beach?" He whispered. Wait...what?
"What?" I shook my head and looked at him.
"For the nightly fireworks." He said back. I was worried about Maddie, and I guess fireworks would take my mind off of it.
"Okay." I sighed and looked out the window. I had sent Maddie some snapchats, and I haven't got any back.
"Joel?" I asked after a while of silence.
"Yeah, Lizzie?" He whispered.
"Do you think...that she's..." My voice trailed off.
"No. I think she's at home worrying about you." He comforted. I smiled.
"Thanks." I said and sighed.

We pulled into one of the front parking lots, and parked right in front of the entrance.
Bing!
I grabbed my phone as fast as I could. Joel looked over at me.
I swiped into my home screen. It was snapchat! I tapped the app as fast as I could. Orionsound has just updated his story. I sighed and clicked on the photo. Maybe Maddie went to Oli's? I mean, there friends.

"Seriously Oli?" Joel yelled and shook his head. I sighed. I gripped my phone and got out of the car. I ran up onto the beach and headed straight for he water. The beach was empty, and Joel was yelling at me from behind. I screamed as loud as I could as the waves slowly rolled in. I sat down on my knees and cried like a toddler. I had just witnessed a carnival catch on fire with people in rides. I thought of the poor girl that was trapped in the box at the Himalaya ride. I thought of the people stuck at the top of the Ferris wheel. I thought about the people who were in the middle of the spinning ride. The Frog Hopper. The Carousel. But I mainly thought about Maddie. Joel slowly walked over to me, in my circled up ball.
"Hey." He said softly and sat down next to me. I kept crying, looking into the dark ocean.
"She's all I have left, Joel." I whispered. My dad had moved away, and my mom...I didn't want to talk about her exactly.
"I'm sure, she's safe." He whispered. I leaned against him, and cried a little more. I sighed, and fell asleep.
