Chapter 3: The Red Planet

Just when I thought that there was peace for such a long time, a few weeks later, plasma gunfire could be heard. Before that, Tychus and my research for better firepower had been proven. It was the Odin. It was a combination of siege tanks and ghost suits. The Odin was a very heavy duty siege-walker, and its firepower was unbeatable. After designing the Odin and taking it for a spin, the scientists of artillery decided to add 'plasma cannon strike' which will quadruple the normal attack of the Odin. Spider repair bots had also been implemented to the Odin so if it is under attack of heavy fire, the spider repair bots will spring to action and repair the Odin.

One last thing the scientists added to the Odin is a black skull button, which will send in two missiles with the mixture of the battlecruiser's 'Yamato Cannon' and its 'Missile Pods'. Those two missiles are not deadly, but they are overpowered and can also be described as overkill. Another new invention was the Wraith. You can say its a ghost, yes. It's like a crossbreed of airborne vehicles between the Hercules transport ship and the medivac. One of the reasons why it's called the Wraith because it can 'Cloak', like the ghosts suits. It shoots out mixes of fire, acid and plasma. Technically, it's for shooting down aircrafts, but ground units can be killed too!

Alright, back to the start where I mentioned a war. This isn't like the last war we had at all. You may think it was less dangerous than that one but this war is an all-kind of war. Over the horizon we could see a whole army of green martians, enough to kill any army. There were about 20 colossus, those babies had big spiders which shoot lasers at you from their eyes. Of course an army is nothing without flagships. 60% to 75% of the airborne army were carriers, while 15% were void rays and 10% which consists of the Green Martians queen's reinforcements and her best crew.

On the other army, which was the blue martians and me, had 7 duplicated Odins, 50 ghosts and 75 siege tanks. For our airborne troops, we had exactly 100 ships, 65 battlecruisers, 20 Wraiths, 3 Medivacs, 2 Hercules transport ships and 10 flagships which hosts 1 for Raynor and Kerriagan, 1 for me and my sister, 1 for my parents and the rest are for Raynor and Kerriagan's lieutenants and bodyguards. My sister felt a mixed feeling of fear and excitement.

After a few minutes of silence, the green martian queen's face popped up on all flagships with the help of the holographic screens. "Commander Raynor and General Kerriagan," she greeted coldly. "For aeons you and your rebellious troops had been thorns on my sides, unremoved." She continued,"Today is the day that all of your rebellious troops and you will perish, mark my words, commander, Executor Selendis will not fail," she continued. "And you Kerriagan, you and I were once sisters, looking out for each other, shielding each other. Leave Commander Raynor now and I will spare you," Kerriangan then shouted, " Never you little piece of sh*t and scum!"

"The choice is yours to make, Commander and General," "And you, Mark, why did you trust this rebellious scum in the first place?!" Selendis regarded harshly. "Lady, your army was the first thing that we saw when we landed on Mars. They took us prisoner!" I spat. "Don't you know the difference between unknown species and extinct species?!" She said. And with that, she turned off her holographic screen. Then the scientist's of the artillery and infantry team gave us some company and the leader of the two army teams, Zeratul, one of the village leaders of the blue martians' castle, gave me the title 'Martian Defender'. He explained that no one had ever been named that rank because it was so high and noble to get it.

A few minutes later, the smaller bots of the carrier ship shot plasma into the sky, signalling that the battle had officially began. The battlecruisers and the carriers exchanged plasma shots with each other as the first carriers begun to blow up. At first by the looks of things that we were massively outnumbered by the green martians but because of our firepower, the tables had slowly been turning.

In my mind, I could not take the fact that we were losing anymore. If the green martians broke through our defenses, all innocent lives in the blue martians kingdom will be harassed. The blue martians gave me the title 'Martian Defender' because I helped with defending them. I couldn't let them down. Eventually, my rage exploded. At the same time, 60% of the green martian's army got destroyed.

I looked at my hands, then my palms, surprisingly, they were smoking purple. At the same time, a new tattoo was imprinted on my right arm. It had the words 'Martian Defender' and crossed laser beams in the middle of the two words. My sister looked at me, her face looking confused, as if asking, 'what on earth happened to you?!' I returned with just a shook of my head. It looked like a nova came from our flagship, except it wasn't a nova at all, it was me! Then in my mind, a man's voice could be heard," You've done well, boy. You had earned my blessing, for I am Mars, Ares in Greek, also known as a the war god."

After the war god Ares spoke to me, Tychus arrived with his team ready to bash some green martian heads. He had quite a mighty fleet, 70 airborne ships and 120 ground infantry. He warp-sped to the battlefield then greeted me," Hey sup man, how's it going?" I gave him an 'OK' sign with my fingers. Luckily he didn't notice the smoke dispensing for my hands. Then another fleet warp-sped out way and I wondered who that was. More green martians? Another blue martian backup fleet? Nay, my guessings weren't even close.

It was Artemis, one of my close friends on Mars school. I can't describe her. She was way too fascinating and you could say that she earned a special spot in my heart. She was also human, surprisingly. You could say she was my life partner or in other words, my girlfriend. She then too, greeted me and Tychus, "Howdy boys, how you doing, honey?" My heart melted straight away as soon as she said that." You ain't told me anything about her, Mark," he smirked." Let's focus on the battle shall we?" I asked the two of them and they agreed, no doubt.

When we reached the battlefield, not much changed. Just a few more dead green martians and maybe 1 or 2 destroyed siege tanks. I left my sister in charge of our flagship as me, Tychus and Artemis tele-transported and charged to the enemy. After what it seemed like an eternity, no more gunfire was heard. Finally, we had won the battle of Mars! Of course, everybody went to search for any still unperished bodies, we then found Selendis. She was coughing on the floor. Since she didn't kill or do a massacre on us, we spared her, but she had to be imprisoned.

Once we reached the kingdom, there was showers of cheers and congratulations. Of course we had parties, and finally Raynor and Kerriagan both gave their speeches and we dug in to the platters of food. Once during the party, my girlfriend dropped her fork and I picked it up for her. She then suddenly kissed me on the cheek and said," I want you to be an exception." I then gladly returned the kiss to her. Until then, if there are anymore Mars Wars, you know where you can find me for help!
