A/N: I just like typing this because it makes me feel professional. B o o m z

I didn’t do what came to my mind at first. I’d run to my mini-fridge and grab another box of the candy-coated strawberries at the first thought. Time slowed down, as if giving me a few moments to contemplate on my decision and action. If I lunged for Z’ev, he’d scold me and if I told him the reason behind my action, he’d be heartbroken and go into the cocoon stage in his room, not daring to exit till who knows when.

However, if I let him do that, he’d get heartbroken and Bre would be crushed with guilt. Both of them wouldn’t be able to act normal and our healthy clique would never be the same. Ah! I thought, my mind screaming in frustration. I still did have the choice of getting those treats…

If you don’t know, that decision was a tough one… It was like I had to choose between candies or strawberries – both which I enjoy equally. Finally, time decided it was tired of my constant rambling about food, and sped up. So I did what I had to do.

I lunged.

Sadly, my body wasn’t awake enough and I ended up falling face-first onto my polished wooden floorboards with a thud. Something dropped onto the ground as well and the next thing I knew, Z’ev was hauling me back to my feet, his dark eyes filled with concern.

Expecting an ‘Are you alright?’, I was glaring daggers at him when he hissed, “You scared me!”

Cursing under my breath, I kicked him in the shin and he let me go with a grunt of pain. “Here I am, saving your butt and you’re scolding me?” I spat and his face creased with guilt. Immediately, guilt started gnawing at me as well, not until a shrill voice interrupted my thoughts.

“What’s the commotion?” Bre, the birthday girl asked from her window, and I gave Z’ev a knowing nod. The room was suddenly filled with our voices, singing along to the familiar lyrics of ‘Happy Birthday’. Bre’s face lit up with excitement and her smile grew ten-fold.

“Thank you, but I’m going to sleep now. Good night!” She squealed and we greeted her before I shut the curtains. Z’ev’s eyes immediately shot to mine, silently demanding for an explanation for what happened earlier.

“Okay I’m not going to care whether you’re man enough to handle the truth but… I really want to eat my lovely desserts so yeah. She doesn’t like you in that way, Z’ev.” I muttered quickly and ended with a huff.

His eyes started softening and his voice lowered to a bare whisper, “Really?”

My heart ached in guilt and I padded over to put my arm over his shoulder, comforting him, “Y-Yeah.”

He buried his face into his palms and plodded to my bed. Rubbing my creased forehead, I kept thinking,

Would it have been better if I just chose to eat?

Stories in reality never have good endings... Never... Because in the end, everyone dies lol.
