Rania smiled softly as she ran her fingers through her daughter's hair. She watched Hamsa hug Yusuf tightly as the two slept. She was going to be just fine. They were going to be fine. Yusuf loved her more than he loved anything or anyone in this world.
"Goodbye, my love." She kissed her daughter's forehead.
"Goodbye, my light." She kissed her daughter's nose.
"Goodbye, my Hamsa." Her voice barely a whisper as she kissed her daughter's cheek. "Goodbye."
She glanced at Yusuf drooling in his sleep, tears threatening to spill. "I'm sorry, Yusi. I really am." She wiped at her eyes. "I'll miss you. I love you. Take care of Hamsa, and take care of yourself." She kissed him on his eyes, his nose, and softly brushed her lips against his. He always was a deep sleeper.
"I'm sorry, Yusuf."
Rania bit her lip. "It's not your fault."
"It's not your fault." She whispered.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I love you.
And, with that, she disappeared into the night while on the other side of the world, a bloodstained; teardrenched woman cried for her life.
