Chapter 19
Before Sunday rolled around, on Friday morning specifically, I had called Ren back. She was pleased to hear from me, and even more pleased to hear I'd finished my portfolio (with help from my new muse—us, Harry and me, although she didn't know that). Then I went onto to gasp when she'd served the job she had lined up for me through the phone call. She'd found a great position, as a junior creative lead in one of the abroad branches— and I could choose which. They were all over the globe (as I learned when she started listing which countries that were looking—most in Europe and some major states in the US, as well as South America and Asia too), so it was more about what country I wanted to go to. I told Ren I would take it, but that I would get back to her on which branch.
As I've decided, I am leaving... but before I tell Ren which branch I've chosen (that I have yet to decide on) I need to tell Hays we're over.
"That doesn't sound like love Jupiter... It sounds more like a debt to be paid."
This debt needs to run to hell and stay there because it's already fucked up too many things in my life, namely the progression of my relationship (if we ever get there) with Harry.
I'll give myself a day to make up my mind, and then tomorrow morning—if I'm ready or not—to break things off with her. I should have a coffee date with Ollie, damn I miss him and his friendship.
Even if things are about to get messy—he was always a good friend to me. I just hope he's over the Harry mess because I could really do with a latte and some Ollie time.
o.o.o
I held the two hot drinks in my hand as I carefully make my way back to the table, near the shop window—where Ollie was waiting for me at.
Ollie just stares at me from his zombie-like position on the coffee table. His two arms were stretched out on to the table, and his head lay between them; chin standing upright. The edge of his fingers gripped the other end of the table due to his long, lanky limbs.
Costa, for this time of day, was awfully quiet. At lunchtime hours—it's normally as packed as PRET. Shaking my head lightly, I pushed those thoughts away and focused on another train of thoughts: Ollie.
"Here," I said to Ollie, who lifted his head and an arm to receive me and his hot chocolate with cream and cinnamon. I sat down on the wooden seat opposite to him and sighed.
This coffee date / catch up was going to be long, painful and difficult—all of which I had decided pre-hand on the 73 bus on the way here (because my lazy arse couldn't be bothered to walk).
"So..." he says taking a sip from his drink.
"So..." I repeat. It seemed like the only safe thing to say right now after all this messed up shit—I can't believe he and I ended up like this. We used to be best friends.
But as much as I didn't want any more added pain to my life, I needed to talk to my friend again—so I had to break through this safely net of so's or I won't get anywhere.
"Ollie, I just want us to go back to us—please. Put all this silly-ness from before behind us, will you?" I ask. His facial expression stays the same, before he, after a minute nods in agreement. "Okay," I clarify smiling.
"What's up Juno?" He asks slowly, but the point is that he asked—he's trying to get back to the old Juno-Ollie dynamic.
"I got a new job," I said, and he smiles—actually looks happy for me. We're back in business.
