"Sadie Fletcher," announced Mr. Green, with a sniffle and a nudge to his thick framed glasses. I could barely hear him through the rap music plugged into my ears, but I managed to raise my hand from the back corner of the room before he noticed my earbuds. I heard his feet shuffle around his desk, a pen scratch along a piece of paper, and then a long sigh as he settled into his desk chair.
I sat up, pulling the earbuds out and letting my hood fall. Detention sucked. The people running my school were much too prude. No one around here could take a joke. Who cares if I put a little bit of whip cream on the seat of Ms. Hannigan's chair? Her pants were white anyways.
Crossing my arms and lying my head on the desk in between them, I closed my eyes and listened to the echoes of Jon Frear tapping his shoe. Suddenly, an alarmingly loud noise echoed through the desk, and whipped my head up only to see that the door had opened.
I bet you can guess who came in LATE, as usual. Joey Truman. Yes, THE Joey Truman. The one with the chocolate brown eyes with the golden flecks, dark brown hair with auburn highlights that sparkle in the sun, and the perfectly straight white teeth that send girls swooning.
Correction- send me swooning. As well as other girls, but they don't exactly matter in this tale that I am about to tell you.
Of course, Joey waltzed right on in with a smirk to Mr. Green, and to my dismay sat in the very front seat on the opposite side of the room as me.
What luck, right?
"Joey, why are you late? Ugh, actually dont answer that. I'd rather not hear about what you and the ladies do in the bathrooms before after-school detention."
"But, sir, why not? It's not like you get anything, so your thoughts and ideas are limited to the porn you watch on your iPad in the teacher's lounge," Joey laughed, sending the other five students in the room as well as me into a fit of giggles. "Yeah, everyone knows about that." Joey flashed the teacher a hearty smile, and Mr. Green slammed his palm down onto his desk, his cheeks growing pink.
"Mr. Truman! Principal's office, NOW!" bellowed Mr. Green in between a flustered jumble of syllables and words. Joey just laughed.
"Sounds fun! They have these great grape lollipops on the main desk," he mumbled as he shut the door behind him.
Mr. Green fumbled through his drawers clumsily while the class surpressed giggles and hoots. This was definitely going to be one hell of a year.

"Derek, hurry up! I dont wanna do this paper alone!" I whined loudly, just loud enough that he could hear me in the shower. I tapped furiously at the keys. Dr. Clark had given us a 10 page paper to do by tomorrow with a partner, but I was keyboard impaired, so I wasnt getting very far alone.
"Im coming, Im coming!" he yelled, and soon enough I heard the shower stop and the creaking sound of metal on metal as he slid the curtain open.
"Thats what she said, loser." I laughed, suddenly having a good idea for the intro, but being stopped mid-thought. I struggled to get out of the wet hug Derek had me grasped in, but his muscles just flexed tighter around me. "Okay, okay, I surrender!" I laughed, throwing me head back to lay it on his shoulder and look up into his beautiful eyes. They had gotten lighter over the summer, I realized.
"You better Sade, because you know you are no match for my delicious body and charm," he chuckled with a playful wink, finally letting me go. I nodded and rolled my eyes with a playful laugh.
I watched him walk away, his wet blonde hair looking more brown then usual, his blue eyes twinkling at me. He was right, he was gorgeous. He was basically the whole package- perfect body, tall but not too tall, great personality. Totally my type- if we weren't bestfriends since 1st grade. It was 10th grade now, we were both sixteen, we had grew up together. Neighbors, best friends, we were the cliche girl/guy match. But it just wasnt like that.
"-Sade? Are you okay?" Derek asked, snapping a finger in front of my nose. I looked up at him, and he smiled, pulling at the towel around his waist. "Did you hear a word I said? Or were you thinking about Jo-" he began with a smirk, before I clamped a hand over his mouth. His eyes grew wide with mock innocence and he mumbled something that sounded like 'what?' through my fingers.
"I told you we never get to speak about ... HIM ... again! You make fun of me too much," I pouted, sticking out my glossy bottom lip. Derek's eyes softened for a moment and he gently removed my hand, holding it tight.
"You know I'm here for you. I don't mean anything when I make fun of you." I gave his hand a squeeze.
"I know." He gave me a bright smile, turning and picking up some plaid boxers from his bed. I quickly snapped a hand over my eyes, laughing.
"All clear!" he announced a few moments later, but I was already typing. Derek walked over, slipping on a tight grey tee and basketball shorts. "Here, let me do it."
"Oh thank you! My fingers are cramping and I'm a slow typer and we only have another hour before my dad wants me home," I exclaimed, jumping up from his desk and sprawling out on his bed.
There was silence, except for the rapid tapping of fingers on keys. Soon enough, I was asleep.

Dear Diary,
Today was okay, I just got home. We had a mad long paper to do. We as in Der and I. That kid, I swear, he gets on my nerves. I love him, of course, but he doesn't know when to shut up. Boundaries have always been weird with him- he doesnt get them. I dont mind the teasing, but its different when its about Joey. I dont know, Diary, maybe Im overreacting.
Oh, reminder, Mom said to pick up milk tomorrow.
Night Diary!
xoxo
