(Wanda's POV)

I retreated back into my corner, hugging my knees to my chest. The aching pain inside me still hadn't subsided in the least. The same agonizing thought reverberated in my mind.

What if he doesn't make it out alive?

The very idea was eating me alive. I needed Pietro to live, because I knew I couldn't survive in a world without him. I started rocking back and forth, wishing for the ugly thoughts to leave my mind.

Cautiously, a nurse approached me, her  white sneakers making soft noises against the tile floor. I wanted to warn her to stay away from me, let her know that I was dangerous. But one small expression changed it all. She halted her tentative approach right next to me, bending down so we were at eye level. Her lips lifted in the smallest smile, she reached  out her arm to rest her hand on my shoulder. She rubbed small soothing circles on my skin. I looked up at her, curious to see who could evoke such calming feelings from someone as chaotic as me. She had very light brown hair that shone blonde in the light, her caramel colored eyes were warm, and welcoming. She took a deep breath before speaking.

"Wanda? That's your name, right?" She asked sweetly. I nodded. "You're his sister, correct?" I nodded again. "Listen, the cradle is working wonderfully, but your brother has lost a lot of blood. He is going to need a transfusion when he wakes up, and we need someone with the same blood type. Would you mind letting me take some blood from you?" She asked.

"Sure," I answered. "Anything for Pietro".

She handed me a glass of water. I quickly drank from it. She applied a small latex band as tourniquet above my elbow and asked me to open and close my hand.  She selected a vein and disinfected the skin around it.  She waited for the skin to dry. She pushed the needle into the vein and asked me to open and close my hand slowly once again. We waited for the blood to flow.

"What's your name?" I asked her.

"Sarah." She answered with a small smile.

I made a mental note to always ask for Sarah when in this clinic. There was just something about her that was very calming.

Once, the deep red liquid began to flow through the tube to the bag she removed the tourniquet. I watched the thick crimson color take over the sterile white of the tube, and it reminded me of what was happening in my head. The thick blinding agony tarnishing the happiness inside me.

Once she finished, I felt slightly woozy, but I paid it no mind. I stood up, all the blood rushed to my head, my vision went dark, grey eating at the edges, and I could feel small pinpricks in my fingers. Immediately, Sarah and the Vision rushed to my side, keeping me from falling over. I held onto their forearms. Once my vision cleared, I walked over to Pietro. I pulled a chair next to the cradle and waited for him to wake up.

Two hours later, the regeneration process had finished and Pietro would wake up any minute. The Captain, and a few nurses moved Pietro to a normal hospital bed. They quickly began the blood transfusion, it seemed oddly fitting that my blood would run through his veins.

He looked so pale, so dead. It was hard to convince myself he was alive. I ended up placing by hand on his heart, just to hear it beat. Although, the pound of his heart came slowly, and infrequently.

Sarah hooked him up to a heart monitor. 35 beats per minute. "Still way below average for someone of his physical fitness." Sarah commented.

"But do you think he will live?" I asked. My heart jumped to my throat, and tears welled in my eyes in anticipation of her answer.

"Personally, yes."

Helen Cho walked back into the room.

(Steve's POV)

Helen- I mean Dr. Cho walked back into the room. She looked exhibition despite her brief time of rest. I quickly made my way to her, stopping her with my hand on her shoulder. She looked up at me, her beautiful brown eyes unreadable.

"You need rest." I said gently.

"I need to help my patient." She protested softly.

"Your nurses and the cradle already helped him, and so have you. You've done all you can, now we have to wait, and you have to rest." I assured. I gently guided her from the room, taking note of her backward glances. I moved my arm so it rested on her back.

"I really should be in there."

"Hele- Dr.Cho, you saved that kid's life, you operated on him for 19 hours. Both he, and you, need to rest and recover. Please,"

She didn't answer for a moment. Looking up at me with an unrecognizable look.  "Shouldn't you be doing the same?" Her hand came up to meet my face, and she examined a small cut on my cheekbone.

I rubbed the back of my neck. "I guess you caught me there." I admitted.

"Then we'll both stay, it looks like you guys need some patching up." She smiled gently at me, and I felt a strange emotion at the pit of my stomach, though it wasn't an unpleasant feeling.

We walked back into the room together, and Helen began to clean and bandage my cuts, and instructed her nurses to do the same for the other Avengers. I noticed a certain nurse, the one that took Maximoff's  blood, hadn't left her side. I smiled at the thought of the twins having made a friend in the tower.

Helen then got my attention, removing the top half of my suit. I raised an eyebrow at her expression, she was blushing.

"There's a wound on your left shoulder." She said faintly. I laughed slightly at her embarrassment.

Once she finished, I put my suit back on, and sat down next to the other Avengers.

And we waited.

Thanks for reading! So if you haven't figured it out yet, I really ship Helen and Steve. I call it 'Stelen' 💓. I know they aren't canon but I feel like they had a cute moment in AOU that they could've developed on (instead of Steve+Sharon- gross). So I hope you like them together! Vote and comment!
