(3rd Person POV)

Pietro and Vision watched helplessly as Dr. List attached a strange object to Wanda's forehead. They looked toward List to find he was pressing on a dead man's switch. They saw and heard Wanda's panic grow, she was shaking and hyperventilating. Pietro knew immediately what was happening, he had seen it before, when Clint had attacked her.

"See how it feels?!" The wicked doctor asked with a cruel smile. He was referring to the invasion of one's mind, a skill Wanda was particularly adept at.

Wanda at this point had obviously lost her sense of hearing because she was completely oblivious to her brother's cries for her.

Pietro always had been quick to anger. And this was no exception. He used his super speed to deliver a nose-breaking blow to Dr. List. The endangerment of his "baby" sister was something he did not lightly.

"The hell did you do to her?!" He said, delivering several other punches to the aging man.

Dr. List touched Pietro's neck forcefully, using his toxic ability to slowly poison Pietro.

"The device which is slowly killing her- in the most painful way possible for a telepath- is connected to this switch. If I keep pressing it she will die, if I let go this building will explode, and you and your entire team will die... Your choice." He said with a twisted laugh.

"No." Pietro protested plainly. He quickly shot a look to Vision, who was trying to help Wanda.

They exchanged a nod.

Pietro sped to Dr. List, placing his thumb over the trigger, and removing it from List's possession. He then signaled Vision, who used the mind stone to disable the device, and remove it from Wanda's head. With the device destroyed, the trigger was useless, and Pietro dropped it harshly on the floor. Wanda, now robbed of the thrumming electricity in her veins passed out immediately, Vision caught her as her body crumpled in on itself.

(Wanda's POV)

I squinted my eyes to avoid the blinding light I knew was to come when I was exposed to the outside world again. I could feel my body tremoring, still not ridden of the electricity that fried my brain minutes ago. I felt a soothing presence holding me, but I couldn't focus well enough to know what the people around me were saying. Their words were just small murmurs amongst the constant buzzing in my head.

I clutched the person who was holding me, urging them closer. And though I'd like to say I didn't know who it was, I was almost certain it was Vision. But my mind was too prideful to accept the longing our connection had bestowed on me.

I felt my muscles slowly release, and the tension ebbed from my body as the shaking stopped. I opened my eyes timidly, worried as to what I'd find. I was foolish to be scared, I should've trusted that my team would wake me to a comforting sight. And what I did see was comfortable. As I woke I could hear Vision telling everyone to back away, so I wouldn't become overwhelmed. I was, indeed, in Vision's arms. The team was waiting nearby. I immediately hugged Vision without second thought, and he returned the embrace.

"Are you alright, Wanda?" He queried gently.

"I think so." I fibbed with an unconvincing smile. "Killer headache though."

Vision lifted me from our position on the floor, and the team made our retreat back to the Quinjet. We passed countless bodies on our way back. I wanted to protest that I could walk on my own, but the numbness of my legs (and the rest of my body) prevented me from doing so. So I simply leaned into Vision's chest and remained silent.

We boarded the Quinjet, where Clint had set up a space for me to rest. It was near the cockpit, rather secluded from the benches where the other Avengers were sitting. Vision placed me gently on the medical table, where they had folded a blanket as a makeshift pillow under my head. Once I set safely on the table, Vision let go of me but he spared me an unreadable glance that my clouded mind couldn't decipher. He grabbed my hand, giving it gentle squeeze, before removing his golden cape, and spreading it over ,e like a blanket. He retreated back to where the other Avengers were waiting. As Clint began to take off, Pietro pulled up a chair beside me, and remained by my side until I fell into a heavy-lidded, exhausted sleep.

When I woke, we had arrived at the Avenger's tower. Pietro was carrying me this time, speeding me over to the medical floor. I looked down and realized I was still wrapped in Vision's cape, which was surprisingly comfortable. While we waited awkwardly for the elevator I decided to try and lighten the mood, I knew my brother was worrying incessantly about me.

"It will be a miracle if I ever get to walk by myself again." I mused. "It seems like I'm always being carried by someone." I added with a small laugh, which I instantly regretted because it made my head hurt.

I didn't attempt to joke after that.

As I was wheeled through the medical facility I caught sight of a familiar face. A comforting face, of which I hadn't seen in a while. It was Sarah, the kind nurse who had helped Pietro, when I first arrived here. I called out for her.

"I'm here Wanda." She assured.

Behind her I saw Helen Cho, she was waiting by the entrance of the medical bay, as if she was waiting for someone. Then I saw who she was waiting for. Captain Rodgers entered, and immediately Dr. Cho's face lit up in a smile. Her and the Captain exchanged a look, a strange and complicated look, as if they didn't know what to say to each other. Suddenly, they both began speaking at the same time, each cancelling out the other's words. They both blushed bashfully at each other, and they retreated to her office to talk. I almost laughed at their adorable exchange, but stopped once I remembered the pain that it caused me.

Sarah looked on happily as well, admiring the blossoming romance between our superiors. "They're cute." She commented sweetly as she tucked a piece of her golden hair behind her ear. I caught Pietro looking at her. I nudged him, and gestured to her discreetly, a mischievous smile crept onto my face. Pietro shook his head, but continued to smile at the pretty nurse, who connected tubes to my arms, and monitors to my finger and chest.

I realized one of the tubes must have had morphine, because my pain subsided, and allowed me some much desired sleep.
