I couldn't wipe off the smile on my face as my dad walked me down the shorts aisle to where my soon to be husband stood. He wore a plain black suit with a white crisp shirt underneath along with a soft blue tie. The thing that I was more focused on was the large smile on his face. I felt like crying, I was finally getting married to my other half, the love of my life. I felt a slight squeeze on my arm and looked up to see my father's warm brown eyes. I let out a small laugh, I had stopped walking. The traditional bridal music played softly as I began walking again (trying my best not to sprint to Evan who I hadn't seen for the last few days due to the so-called tradition of not seeing the groom before the weding).
As I walked down the aisle, I felt a cool rush of wind from the ocean we sat by. My eyes glanced at the beautiful ocean, which gleamed with the light of the sun and moon. The sun was still setting in the horizon, casting a warm glow off pink, purple and a soft blue. Soon enough, my father had handed me off, sitting beside me as I went to stand in front of Evan. The pastor smiled at me and began saying everything that was meant to be said. I was hardly listening, I was more interested in the crappy jokes that Evan mouthed to me "Evan you may read your vows."
He covered his mouth in shock, "You were serious about that?" I narrowed my eyes before lifting my head to slap him only to hit nothing. He had ducked. I glared at him, I had asked him a thousand times if he had written them or artlessly thought about them and he said yes! "I'm joking babe. I've got them right here." He revealed a small paper that was folded neatly from his breast pocket with a grin. I rolled my eyes at him.
He scanned the card before putting it back in his pocket. He cleared his throat before speaking, "Mya, you are the most beautiful girl that I've ever met. Both inside and out. I love you, no matter who comes between us." My mind wandered to most of his family. He tapped my chin and continued. "Despite that the beginning of our relationship was rocky, literally she threw a rock at me. " Everyone laughed briefly. "I knew that underneath that mean med student who loved pizza, there was also sweet, amazing women who loved pizza." I smiled. "I am so glad for your best friend-"She let out a holler, "or else, we wouldn't be here today. I wouldn't be able to say that I love you. I wouldn't be able to say that despite your weird obsessions, I will always love you no matter what." He leaned in and pecked me on the lips. I wiped my eyes, as I looked at the man before me. I was 300% that this was the man that I was destined to be with.
The pastor smiled and looked at me and motion for me to speak.
"Evan Joseph Walters, I know this may sound crazy but I fell in love with you when I first spoke to you. I was just scared to open my heart to anyone, especially to a successful handsome man who was interested in me, out of everyone." I paused as I looked at him. "You were and still are an amazing man. Thank you for staying up and helping me study when you still had to go to work in a few hours. Thank you for not complaining about my horrible cooking and baking. You are one the kindest and selfless person in the world and I'm glad that I fell in love with you because there is no other person I could imagine getting married to- except Adam Levine, Christ Hemsworth or-"
"I love you too." He pecked my lips. I laughed at his jealous nature. We exchanged rings and I couldn't help feel excited, in just a few seconds I would be legally married to the love of my life.
"By the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Evan didn't waste a moment as he grabbed me by the waist and connected our lips as he dipped me. "I love you so much," I whispered as he pulled away so we could breathe.
"I love you more."
"I present you, Mr. and Mrs. Davenport."
The small group of friends and family stood and clapped with smiles on their faces. This was the happiest day of my life. Little did I know what was to come in just a few weeks.
