I sighed as I looked out my bedroom window. A couple passing by caught my eye. The woman was heavily pregnant and had a hand place on her enlargened stomach. The man who was holding her hand with a large smile on his face. Her eyes wandered from them to her door which opened revealing Ian. His small body rushed to her, "Momma, your phone ring." I smiled and kissed the top of his head.
"Thank you, why don't you put on your shoes so we can go to Auntie Sarah's house." He rushed out of the room and I answered the phone. "Hello, this is Mya speaking." I put the phone on speaker and set it on my bedside table as I put on my shoes.
"Uh, this is Mr. Rodriguez. The insurance agent." I hummed. "I had some people look into it and it seems that your husband is alive. We are not sure as to why he was deceased in our system nor as to why the money was released to your previous agent. My-" My ears turned deaf as he continued to speak. My eyes began to water. He was alive? My head began spinning as I remembered the day that I was told that Evan died.Approximately 1 month after they got married
I smiled as I pulled into the driveway of Evan's parents house. Lianna, one of his younger sisters had told me she had urgent news to tell me. I changed from my sandals into a pair of heels. I had just come from the doctor with some amazing news for Evan when he arrived from his business trip to California.
I knocked on the door and stood there for a few minutes before a short blonde woman with brown eyes opened the door. "Hello Mrs. Davenport." When she rolled her eyes, I noticed how red her eyes were. "Are you okay? Do you-" She glared at me before walking to the family room where Evan's father sat with a glass of whiskey, his mother next to him with a hand on his shoulder and Evan's youngest sister was wiping away her tears. "What happened?" No one in the room liked me to say the least, they barely tolerated me throughout our seven year relationship.
"Evan got into an accident."His mother said, glaring at me as if I was the reason that he was in an accident.
I sat down on the couch and tried to control the tears that were threatening to fall. "Is he- is he okay?" I prayed to God that he was. I don't know what I'd do without him.
His grandmother sighed and closed her eyes, "He died."
It took a few seconds for me to process that a sea full of tears fell from my eyes. I touched my stomach. Our baby would never be able to meet his father, the amazing man that I fell for. "But our child..." Everyone in the room ears' perked up in confusion. His family was extremely religious and unaware of our secret marriage in Hawaii.
Madeline scoffed and wiped her eyes, returning to the bitch she would forever be. "Child? Don't lie, Evan would never have sex before marriage." I wanted to explain everything but I was still trying to process the news.
"She cheated on Evan with me a few weeks ago." I looked up to see Evan's older brother, Daniel. I was about to tell them all that it was a lie and that I would never touch another man but he spoke before me. "Don't trust her, she will only come up with some lie."
I felt someone roughly grab me by my arm. "Out of my house. Don't you even think about talking to anyone in this family ever again. Don't bother to come to the funeral either." I felt myself land on the gravel of the driveway and slowly stood to see the large wooden door being shut. I picked up all my things and somehow walked to the car. I pulled out of the driveway and made it halfway home before pulling over into a patch of grass. I called him probably a thousand times before breaking down and crying my soul out. The voicemail rang in my ears.
"I'm sorry can't come to the phone right now -stop My- leave a message!" I was giggling in the background. I only cried harder.
That was the day I felt as if my heart was being ripped out of my chest and being stomped on. But as I sat on my bed, I couldn't help but feel even worse. He had his family lie to me and fake his death so he could get away from me. I held in my tears as I stood and prepared to drive to my best friend's house.
