The next morning came and trucks drove by the building, waking Victor up. He crawled to the window and checked the streets. He looked down one side and the other and saw men walking into buildings. Victor's eyes widened.
"Wake up." Victor exclaimed as he pushed everyone "They're checking all the houses for people, lets go!"
Joseph got uo and checked for himself and sure enough, saw the men.
"Oh shit. We gotta go."
Joseph helped Janice and Taylor up and everyone grabbed their things. Victor lead everyone out the back door.
"Go, go, go."
Everyone got out and they all started running away from the building and hd to hop over a fence. Joseph and Victor helped Janice and Taylor over. Once everyone was over they ran farther away, not cautious of The Prophecy guards patrolling. Everyone kept running as soldiers ran after them. There were about two dozen after them by now.
Victor turned and started shooting behind hitting a few. Joseph knocked down some crates and boxes to block the pathway behind them.
As everyone ran, a woman at the doorway of a hospital yelled for everyone to get inside, everyone started running faster and got inside except Joseph. As he ran his leg began cramping up and he fell. Victor went to run but Joseph yelled at him, telling him to run away, but Victor wasn't going to lose his best friend.
Victor carried Joseph into the hospital and the woman barricaded the door.
She then lead everyone to a tunnel under the hospital and told everyone to go to the end of the tunnel.
Everybody ran and the woman closed the entrance of the tunnel and followed.
Everyone was safe and escaped the guards. They all were in a room filled with medical supplies.
Victor looked at the woman and asked "Who are you?"
"Im Dr. Hindley, but my name is Lauren. I worked here, when it was still functioning."
"Why did you save us?" Asked Janice
"Because it's my job to help others."
Joseph layed his hand on Victor's shoulder "Victor."
Victor turned to look at him
"Whats wrong?"
Joseph fell onto his knees and dlammed onto the floor face first. In his back was a bullet. It shot directly below his heart.
Victor dropped to his knees and held joseph in his arms. "Joseph. Joseph. Joseph, stop playing. Joseph." He checked his pulse. Nothing. "Joseph!" Victor began to tear up and yelled at Dr. Hindley "Help me!"
She told him that it's too late. He yelled and cried, holding his best friend's lifeless body in his arms.
Janice and Taylor tried comforting him, but nothing worked. Finally, Victor closed Joseph's eyes ,laid him down on the floor, and just sat down in a chair in a corner.
Victor thought about what joseph would've wanted. "We have to keep moving."
Dr. Hindley asked "Where are you all going."
"Were headed east, we need to leave now before its too late."
"We can't leave now. Soldiers are searching the whole hospital for us. We have to wait a few hours, maybe spend the night here."
Victor, hesitated to agree, but realized that she was right. He sat down and waited.
Everyone was scared. They all thought that the prophecy soldiers would find them.
Victor decided it would be best if they spent the night in the hideout.
Everybody laid down on the ground and fell asleep, except Victor.
He couldn't stop thinking of Amber and Joseph. There was no one left for him. He started began having his flashbacks. All the blood and seeing his partner die in front of him. Hestood up and started to yell "You bastard! Fuck you!"
Dr. Hindley shook him and took hin out of this trance. Victor looked around and realized he was safe.
"You're a war vet, huh?" Asked Dr. Hindley.
"Yeah, I keep having these....flashbacks. I feel like they're getting stronger and taking me over."
Dr. Hindley stood up and went runmaging through the medical supplies.
"Here." She handed him a bittle of pills. "Take one everynight before you sleep and it'll help control the flashbacks."
Victor opened the bottle and took a pill. It worked almost instantly. His head wasn't hurting as much, and he could feel his mind free up.
"Thank you." Said Victor as he closed the bottle
"No problem, we should sleep so we have rest for tomorrow."
Victor agreed and laid down, and finally, his night of sleep, was peaceful. No flashbacks and no grusome pictures of his partner dying.
He felt, free.
