Tori
"The what of who?" Lydia asked Allison as we sat in the library during lunch. She was telling us some 'interesting' things about her family history.
"The Beast of Gevaudan. Listen 'A quadruped wolf- like monster, prowling the Auvergne and south Dordogne areas of France during the year 1764 to 1767. La Bête killed over a hundred people, becoming so infamous that the King Louie the fifteenth sent one of his best hunters to try and kill it." Allison read from her book. I was flipping through a book to find out about my family history. So far I've got nothing.
"Boring" Lydia sang out.
"'Even the church eventually declared the monster a messenger of Satan.'" Allison continued to read.
"Still boring" Lydia sighed.
"'Cryptozoologists believe it may have been a subspecies of a hoofed predator. Possibly a mesonychild.'"
"Slipping into a coma bored" Lydia yawned for effect. I held in my laugh as Allison was glowing from excitement while Lydia could care less.
"'While others believe it was a powerful sorcerer who could shape shift into a man eating monster.'"
"Does any of this have anything to do with your family?" I spoke up gaining the two girls attentions.
"This. 'It is believed that La Bête was finally trapped and killed by a renown hunter who claimed his wife and four children were the first to fall prey to the creature' his name was Argent." Allison looked at both me and Lydia, curiosity and excitement lit up her eyes.
"Your ancestors killed a big wolf. So what?" Lydia asked shaking her head. I turned to glare at her for putting the poor girl down.
"Not just a big wolf. Take a look at the picture. What does it look like you to you?" Allison turned the book to us so we could see and I froze in my seat. It was almost identical to what I saw the other night. "Tori? Tori?" Allison spoke louder to try and gain my attention. I snapped out of my trance like state and saw some people that were closer bye looking at us weirdly. My sister handled that one though.
"It looks- like a big- wolf." I concluded catching Stiles' eye from the back of the study section in the library. I gathered up my things and smiled at them both. "See you in History ladies."
"Your Yoda I will be. I said it backwards." I heard Stiles say as I moved closer.
"Yeah I- I know" Scott answered as I sat next to Stiles.
"Hey guys" I said scaring them both.
"Hey Tori. What are you doing over here? Not that I don't want you over here because I do wait that's not what I meant. Well it is but-"
"Stiles," I cut off his nervous rambling. "I just wanted to come say hi."
"Oh well hi" he said awkwardly waving. I laughed and looked between them.
"So what are you two doing?"
"Nothing. Nothing just sitting her talking." Scott said quickly. I gave him a weird look but let it go.
"About Star Wars? I heard you as I was walking up." I asked them.
"Yeah abo- wait. You watched Star Wars before?" Stiles asked shocked.
"Hell yeah those movies are favorites. Their amazing!" I gushed. I do have to admit, when it came to Star Wars I was a total geek.
"I know right!" Stiles yelled excitedly making others around him 'sh' him. He looked at me completely dazed with admiration in his eyes. Thankfully Scott saved him.
"So, Tori. Have you got anything on your ancestors?" Scott asked me. I shook my head annoyed.
"No. Absolutely nothing and its pissing me off. Did my ancestors not keep any records what so ever or were they complete stiffs and did nothing out of the ordinary. I mean Allison actually has a pretty cool thing to write about."
"She does what is it?" Scott asked practically jumping from his seat.
"I'm not sure but it's like this shape shifting man eating wolf from France in the seventeen hundreds. Its pretty interesting actually. I just wish I could find something on my family." When I spoke about the wolf thing I noticed Scott and Stiles go pale but i ignored it. Their weird.
"Scott! Scott, wait. Hey,Scott. Sc-" Allison yelled waving her arms around for Scott to see. He quickly shot from his seat and ran out.
"What the hell was that?" I asked Stiles shocked.
"Um, I have no idea." He responded. I raised my eyebrows but again, ignored his uncertainty. "Oh by the way, maybe sometime this week you could come over and I could help you with your history project. I mean if you want to, you obviously don't-"
"Stiles. I would love to come over. Plus,I could use all the help I can get. Now I need to go to my locker to get my things for the next period but I'll see you in Coaches class, yeah?" He nodded his head frantically smiling. I giggled and kissed his cheek before getting up. "Bye Stiles" I winked and walked away leaving him flustered and dazed.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Let's go. Sit, sit, sit, sit. We got a lot to cover today. Let's go. Quicker!" Coach yelled as the students filed into his class. I took my seat that was across from Scott's and behind Stiles'.
"Hey Stiles, sit behind me dude." Scott whispered to Stiles. I looked at him weirdly. That was Allison's seat. Thankfully Allison beat Stiles to it.
"What's going on with Scott?" I asked Stiles quietly as he sat down.
"It's complicated..." He muttered.
"Well any way guess what?" I asked him excitedly.
"What?"he asked grinning happily at me.
"So I actually found something me and you could do research on when you help me sometime this week. In one of the books I was reading about my ancestors, one of them was actually burned at the stake during the Salem witch trials." I told him smiling wide.
"Wait are you serious?" He asked shocked. I nodded frantically. "That's creaking awesome!" He said smiling big. I laughed and nodded before turning back to face coach.
"Let's settle down. Let's start with a quick summary of last nights reading. Greenburg, put your hand down. Everybody knows you did the reading. How about, uh, McCall."
"What?" Scott asked glancing up at coach confused.
"The reading" coach told him.
"Last nights reading?" Scott asked.
"How about, uh, the reading from the Gettysburg address?" Coach sarcastically asked.
"What?" Scott asked dumbfounded.
"That's sarcasm. You familiar with the term sarcasm McCall?" Coach snapped making Scott glance at Stiles.
"Very" he muttered.
"Did you do the reading or not?" Coach asked walking up to his desk.
"Uh, I think I forgot." Scott sheepishly admitted.
"Nice work McCall. It's not like you're not advertising a D in this class. Come on buddy. You know I can't keep you on the team if you have a D. How about you summarize the previous nights reading? No? How about the night before that? How about you summarize anything you've ever read in your entire life?"
"I uh-" Scott stuttered put nervously. I honestly felt bad for him.
"No? A blog? How about, uh, how about, the back of a cereal box? No? How about the adults only warning from your favorite website you visit every night? Anything? Thank you, McCall, thank you. Thank you McCall! Thank you for extinguishing any last flicker of hope I have for your generation. You just blew it for everybody. Thanks. Next practice you can start with suicide runs. Unless that's too much reading. All right. Everybody else, settle down." I would've been flipping out or crying if Coach yelled at me that. I looked over and saw Allison holding his hand. That made me smile thinking she kept him sane.
