I stayed in the junk room for the whole weekend. And the next week. Charlie covered for me in class. They brought me food but left it outside the door.

I finally decided to show my face at breakfast on Monday morning. Everyone were happy to see me. Rhys came up to me. “I’m sorry.”

“For what?” I managed to say.

“For upsetting you.”

“I wasn’t upset for that.” I whispered. And I realized I had no school uniform.

“If you’re wondering about school uniform, it’s fine.” Charlie said. “You’ll be able to fit into the boys’ school stuff. You’ve got a jumper?” I nodded.

I got ready and took nothing to school with me. Me and Rhys stood in the yard. “You gonna be okay?” I nodded.

I walked into my class. “Marcus!” My classmates cried. “How nice to see you! Have you been on holiday, Mr LA said you were?” I managed to nod.

Charlie took me outside the class. He grabbed me by the arm and dragged me towards Rhys’ class.

“You’re staying here for the morning.”

I sat down in a seat, which was surprisingly small, next to Rhys. I calmed down once I was in my little lesson with him.

“How are you?” Rhys asked as we sat down.” I just nodded and shrugged. “Have you ate something yet?” I shook my head. “I’ll get you something. He went up to his teacher and started talking. Somehow he came back with ten apples. “Here you go.”

I refused each and every apple, three carrots, a banana, a cup of orange juice, a cup of milk, a freddo frog and even a slice of some kid’s birthday cake.

Rhys by this time was really getting upset. “Marcus, you have to eat something.” I grabbed my shoulders and gave them a quick shake. ”You have to eat!”

I grabbed an apple, looking at him. He smiled.

“Marcus, you’re wanted back at your class.” The teacher called.
