Chapter Six
-----------------------
I had a few days left until basketball tryouts. I had spent the past week practicing with Koren. I had walked into school feeling better than I had in a while. I learned about Passing, dodging, catching, shooting and even a few tricks here and there.
It was fifth period and I had gotten sent out of class for knocking a guy out of his chair. As usual my side of the story didn't matter and I was sent out. Well flak it getting sent out isn't anything new for me. I walked down the deserted hallway and enjoyed the quiet until I walked past the janitor's closet.
I could hear loud moans coming from the small room. I rolled my eyes as the banging noises started to get louder. I'm sure it's not illegal but I'm sure as hell its illicit at least. These freaking hormonal ass people getting it on in closets... I swear someone's going to catch something one day. I walked back to the door and kicked it hard before saying, "Use protection dumbasses!"
I walked straight into Doug's office and sat down in a seat. "Sup Doug." I said as he rolled his eyes.
"The agreement was you could use my first name only WHEN you found a mentor." He said.
I crossed my legs on his desk and fixed my tie, "Oh Doug this is where it gets interesting you see I have a mentor...for eh about a week now. Koren Vespertine maybe ya know her." I said smiling.
"What? You already have a mentor...that's...that wasn't supposed to happen." He sputtered.
"Yep that's right Doug," I inhaled a big breath "Hot damn I see why you love your job." I said excited.
He sighed and rubbed a hand through his graying hair, "Yes that is the best part of the job. Well Keeley I guess a few days from now you will be trying out for the guy's team." He said.
"Sounds promising." I said. "Well no cheerleading for me." I smirked.
"That's only if you make the team." He said. Well way to burst my dang bubble.
"Make the team?" I questioned giving him a look.
"Yes and if you don't make the team you will be wearing one of these," He said as he opened a box and presented a short red and black trimmed top. He flipped the top around exposing my name in small cursive writing. "Just came in this morning." He beamed.
I gaped in horror at the thing "That thing will barely cover my upper half, no way, no way am I wearing that... thing!" I yelled pointing to the incriminating piece of so-called clothing.
"Then make the team." He said flatly as he put it back in the box.
"Oh believe me I will and when I do I'm taking that...thing," I said for lack of a better word for the thing "and burning the fuck out of it. I would say pardon my French but that was pure sarcastic American English." I said smiling.
"We'll see." Is all he said.
I sat there and listened as he started talking about his issues. I was zoned out the whole time, my thoughts trailing away to Koren. Seems like my thoughts always trailed to her lately. Actually I wonder what she's doing right now, maybe we could- "Are you even listening?" Doug interrupted.
"Uhh yes I was totally listening." I stammered out.
"Okay then what did I say?" He questioned, eyes narrowing. Crap I'm bad at being put on the spot.
"Erg, don't let the vampires bite... and personally I agree with you because that would hurt for what 3 days... then you're a newborn and unstable, plus if you go all Rambo and kill people the Voltaire step in and Kimbo Slice your ass." I rush out off the top of my head.
