Monsters ... everywhere he looked there were Monsters. Leering at him and staring with hunger. He could spot a few licking their lips, yet he still ignored it.

He climbed the stone steps carefully, one hand on the hilt of his sword, the other on his shield. More and more Monsters came to look at their prey, some even getting close enough to touch him.

"If I were you, I wouldn't get any closer," he warned them all. They all laughed and cackled at his warning and continued to follow, their stomachs rumbling of hunger.

"We don't listen to you," a Monster nearby hissed.

He reached the top of the steps and turned around. At least one hundred eyeballs were focused on the man, making his heart skip a beat, or even several. But he couldn't show signs of fear, not at this time.

He turned his back on the monsters with his shield facing them. He knew they would attack, he just wasn't sure when.

He continued walking, trying to keep a pace that didn't show he was in fear, but every step he took made it harder to breathe.

He closed his eyes for a second and was attacked by several monsters. His eyes snapped open and his sword slashed through the bodies of slimy Monsters, possessed objects, and Demons.

"Don't try to bite me," he snarled at them. A few Monsters took a few steps backwards, others stood there with hunger.

He reached another set of steps. These ones were much higher, and very steep. Surely he would be attacked halfway through climbing them.

He took a deep breath and raised his leg. He turned his head towards the Monsters and said, "Let me see your leader. He'll decide what happens with me." He noticed the Monsters now looking fearful and shiver.

He began to climb them, his head repeatedly turning backwards and forwards. Now only a few Monsters and Demons followed, while the others stayed behind.

It must've taken at least fifteen minutes to climb, but the man did it with ease. It was the remaining Monsters and Demons he worried about. They weren't backing down.

"Do I really have to take you out myself?" Asked the man. They ignored him and crept closer. He groped the hilt of his sword once again.

The Monsters and Demons began to circle around him. The man pulled his sword out of his sheath and held it close to his face.

A Monster let out a roar and pounced on him. The sword swung in their direction and hit the Monster in the chest. They fell back from impact, but aside from that, they looked unharmed.

A Demon and a Monster roared at the man for hurting their friend. The Demon charged at him with wide teeth. The man held his shield up to block the attack and the Demon hit the shield with such force that there was a cracking noise.

There was no time to look at the damage that had happened. Two Monsters at once pounced at the man. His sword swung towards the closest Monster, while his shield tried to stop the other.

"Aah—!"

A sharp pain coursed through the man's back. He turned his head and looked down at his back. His eyes widened as he saw three large claw marks through his clothing and on his back. Blood began to appear and drip onto the ground.

"You were warned!" He shouted with rage. He began slashing his sword into the stomach of a Monster. Blood splat on to him and his sword, but he didn't care.

That was one Monster down. Now he just had two Monsters and two Demons left.

He thrusted and slashed, all the while moving swiftly. He pushed himself to keep going, his fears slowly disappearing as a Monster and Demon both lost to him.
