Amy and Atalo scanned the notice board with Grey early one morning. Sadly, nothing new had been put up for them, and the same old and pathetic jobs were still pinned on it.
"These jobs are poor," Grey complained.
Amy looked over at him and shook her head. "You shouldn't even be doing anything. You are injured." She gestured towards his arm, which was now in a sling.
"Madge said I'm fine," he said with a shaky voice.
Atalo took Amy's side on this. He had suffered injuries too, some of which he ignored and caused some serious damage. "Yeah, Grey you should rest." He gave a dirty look and grunted. "You were shot, you need to recover."
"I'm fine," he repeated angrily.
"Fine to do normal activities, not to do jobs." Amy folded her arms with a stern look on her face. "Just find something around here to do. Relax, something you rarely do."
The two went on for a while. Others showed up to check on the board, but the two didn't budge. Atalo decided to lean against a wall nearby. Phoebe soon accompanied him and looked on to see what was becoming of the argument.
"When will they stop?" She groaned. She began collecting dust by drawing her finger across the floor and then blew on it.
Serena arrived on the scene in a rather disgusted mood. She had a frown on her face, with her lips pursed and arms folded, much like Amy. She pushed passed Atalo and Phoebe, then the others who blocked her view.
"Shut it," she snapped. The whole room went silent and all eyes were on Serena. She had never been so demanding in all of her time at StoneClaw.
Atalo and Phoebe exchanged glances worriedly. "Should we do something?" Atalo asked her.
Phoebe replied with a shrug and said, "She kind of hates you. You know why." Atalo grinded his teeth at the thought. It was a simple mistake.
"Grey," Serena started in a much cooler manner. She turned to look at him, blocking Amy's view completely. "I think it's obvious you need to rest, your arm is in a sling." She blocked his view and turned to Amy. "Next time, just go to Madge. Now move along, we've all got jobs to do." The two huffed in annoyance, both disappointed that they didn't earn their victory in the argument.
The two moved on and people crowded around the notice board. Atalo could hear the whines about the poor payments and lack of jobs, although a few people actually took a notice off the board and reported to Nero immediately.
"I'll catch you later." Phoebe ran off after Serena, calling her name out in the process.
Atalo walked over to Amy and the two embraced each other into a hug. They often spoke about their concerns for Serena, but they never did anything about it.
The two had decided to spend the day together instead of doing any extreme physical work. They spent the morning outside on a walk, before retreating from the heat and going back to the Howler Mansion. After that, the two had lunch in his bedroom so they could be alone.
"I worry for Serena," Amy confessed, halfway through a sandwich. She downed the rest of it quickly so she could continue the boring topic. "She's not stable as a person. She has nobody except Phoebe."
Atalo took a sip of water slowly to avoid the topic. It was off-putting and awkward. As he stalled, Atalo nodded slowly.
"I haven't seen her smile in months. We should really try to reach out to her." He nodded once again, swishing the water back and forth inside his mouth. "How long does it take to swallow a small sip of water?" She asked, eyeing him with a raised eyebrow.
