Irene Eldridge's P.O.V.
Avengers' Tower, New YorkDirector Fury, Commander Hill, the Avengers, and I were all crowded in a fairly - and quite surprisingly large - room which overlooked the interview room the mysterious man was currently occupying. The room also housed a handful of S.H.I.E.L.D agents, busy with wandering eyes on screens. Everyone was arguing on who should speak with the man.
Eventually, the decision was made, as Natasha Romanoff and Tony Stark entered the room. It still baffles me how they expected Tony to actually get something out of the guy, I mean the guy is a textbook narcissist. But his attitude did get under the guy's skin and broke him much more faster than he had anticipated.
"Alright people, everyone in places. I need a go or no go from stations." Maria Hill screamed in the room, adjusting the comm that she placed inside her ear. The quiet - and comfortable - mumbling and chatter died down, people getting back to their duties. "Medical?" Maria pointed to the med crew.
"We're good."
"Engineering?"
"All video and sounds seem good."
"Comms?"
"Go."
"Romanoff, Stark, I want your confirmation." Maria spoke into the comm. "We're good." Tony replied, his chocolate brown eyes staring unwavering at the man, who seemed to be holding the same glare.
"So, what brings you here, Mister..." Tony Stark trailed off, taking a seat on one of the chairs opposite to the unknown man. "Petrie, Flynn Petrie."
Tony hummed in approval, nodding his head and pouting his bottom lip. "So, who do you work for, Mister Petrie?" Tony asked, placing his hand under his chin to hold his head as he stared at the peculiar man seated with a smug smile on his face.
"Listen to me, Mister Stark, I am certainly not one of those pathetic people that come here for no reason whatsoever. You should know that I am capable of much more than you can imagine. And I am undoubtedly not here for you or the rest of the Avengers." He stated, face calm and voice a stable tone, but it was the look in his eyes that sent my heart beating wildly in my chest. For a few moments, I felt I trances by this man, this inexplicable man that, in that moment, did not seem to be the person who would turn my life up side down in the future.
Natasha Romanoff had shifted her body weight from one leg to the other, letting her arms drop to her side and clasping them behind her back. "Then who are you here for?" Her voice was sharp and unwavering, something that had impressed me more - if possible.
The man then smirked.
It was subtle, but it was there. The short, faint tug of the left side of his pale lips tugged upwards creating a sinister smirk that sent waves of uncertainty and fear through my being. Casting a spell of fear to eyes that dare look into his own.
But even with the mirrored glass that sat between us, it almost seemed that he was looking directly at me, into my soul. It may have been a bit melodramatic, but then, I did not know the things I know today. My attire, my costume for my alter ego - Catastrophe -, which consisted of the black leather jumpsuit, armed with two guns on the outside of my thighs, my Katanas, the knives pushed inside of my knee high boots, and the knife boomerangs that settled inside my belt buckle was a reassuring pressure on my body.
I took a deep breath, clearing my mind and focusing my telepathic abilities on the unfathomable man that sat in the other room. My mind went into a haze, blurriness and dizziness took over, confusing me beyond belief. It was the first time I had failed this way with my telepathic abilities. I tried a second and third time, but the results were consistent; I could not - for the life of me - get inside his mind.
The evil smirk of the mysterious man was still present, and almost seemed to deepen after my unfulfilled attempts with my abilities.
"You know, Miss Catastrophe, you keep trying, and your mind will stop working, forever. You will not die, but you will not be awake to fathom the things around you." His eyes were dead set on mine through the glass window. And his irritating hands, that seemed to move with each other and bang against the table. I just felt like I might lose it and kill him.
A strong, steady hand laid upon my shoulder, calming me down and stopping me from making the mistake that I will most probably do and ruin any chance at getting into the man's head.
"Stop, it will not do you any good. He's playing with you."
The calm, calculating voice of Steve Rogers was an absolute relief. I had only realized when I calmed down, that my hands were glowing gold at the uncontrolled use of my powers, a result from my anger. Looking up, fearful eyes were looking my way, defensiveness swimming with fear in the pool of eye color. A cold shiver ran down my spine, as I became aware of the fact that I seemed to always get that pitiful - and fearful - gazes from people around me when I started to use my powers.
I must admit, having powers like the ones I own, it is defiantly not a gift, but certainly not a curse.
"I need a few minutes with this man." I turned to Nick. "Absolutely not." He replied.
I sighed, quite annoyed with the actions of Nick Fury. "I am deeply grateful for what you have done for me, but what I do now is none of your business. I am not that scared little girl, I can handle myself." Nick sighed tiredly after my statement. He furiously rubbed his forehead, as his only visible eye closed in annoyance and irritation. "Fine," I smirked. "But you will only get ten minutes." When I opened my mouth to object, Nick raised his hand to stop me.
"No arguments, Monkey."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Don't call me that, please."
He smirked as he realized he had finally gotten under my skin. Ushering towards the door, I rolled my eyes at him and waltzed out the door, oozing with confidence.
Facing the metal door that came in between me and the mysterious man, I forced my heart to calm down, slow down the beating and the flow of blood. Once I knew I was ready, I ushered fro the two guards standing solemnly on either side of the door, to open it. My leather clad feet started to move as I made my way inside.
Standing beside Tony, I set my eyes on Mister Petrie. "Ah, Catastrophe," He smiled, a smile so sinister, it sent unwavering shivers of doubt and uncertainty through my body.
"We have quite a lot to discuss."
Oh my goodness! Thank you all so much! The book has reached 1k and I couldn't believe my eyes. I want to thank you all for the support and I really hope I'm doing Marvel justice with this book.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
