Irene Eldridge's P.O.V
Catastrophe's Liar, Basement of Eldridge EstateI groaned in pain and agony as Mike placed a cotton pad soaked with hydrogen peroxide onto my wound at my right abdominal area. My right hand was hoisting up an ice pad onto my shoulder to ease the pain that resulted from the metal poles falling onto me. While my body could've healed itself, since one of my affinities is healing, it instead went into overdrive, the healing process taking much longer than I had anticipated.
The clicking of the keyboard keys were sounding into the basement, the only other noise in the room affiliated with my groans. My left hand was tapping away, as I skimmed through the comupter's analysis of the weird device I was able to salvage from during the fight.
The technology was something I had never seen before, something odd in shape and in usage. I sighed in exasperation, my mind wandering back to my fight with Captain America.
He seemed like a nice guy, I think.
There's something about the way he approached me that made me question whether he presumed I was a friend or foe.
I guess I won't be able to know that, not until we meet again.
Steve Rogers' P.O.V
Avengers Tower, New YorkI was phsyically in a conference room at the Tower, but mentally, my mind kept wandering to the woman I had encountered during our mission in DC. "Hey, Cap." Sam Wilson's voice cut my wandering thoughts short, and I looked up to face the veteran, also known as The Falcon. "So, who's the chick that you bumped into and stole your shield?" I could see the telltale signs of a smirk trying to emerge on Sam's face and I glared at him for mention that.
Tony Stark had stopped fiddling with the technology he had brought with him to the debriefing. "Woah woah, Capiscle, a woman stole your shield?!" Natasha scowled at the way Stark put it. "I'm pretty sure a woman is as capable as a man." She confidental commented, her striking green eyes glaring at the mechanic.
Tony raised his hands in defense, "I didn't mean it that way, but it is Captain America we're talking about here." That seemed to satisfy Natasha as she turned towards me expectantly, "So, how did she steal your shield, Captain?" I sighed, rolling my eyes at their antics.
Suddenly, everyone had started to comment on the subject, clattered sounds filled the once quiet room. A sudden bang on the long table that was situated in the middle of the brightly lit room had made everyone stop talking and glance at the man that had made the action. Nick Fury, the director of SHIELd and the man with the iconic eye patch - like a pirate, might I add -, looked to be filled with rage at the team's childish behavior.
"I understand you all find the situation humorous, but people are dying, all from these fùcking weird devices." I winced as Fury cursed, pointing to an image at the projector of a device that seemed to be no where near the technology of our time. "Now, why don't we hear the story from the owner of the shield?" He asked sarcastically, a sarcastic smile also appearing on his face, as he pointed towards me.
I sighed nonchalantly as I looked up to their expectant faces. "She was a blonde, blue eyes." I started, and I could see a tingle of recognition in the faces of Stark and Clint Barton. "Was she hot?" Stark suddenly asked. Everyone groaned at his question, the guy himself only shrugging. "I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?" Clint, exasperated, asked. "She had a mask, and wore a suit, like Nat's" I replied. Tony's mouth fell open, "Oh my god..." he looked between us, as if to see if anyone knew what he was getting at. "Don't you guys have any idea who she is?!" We all shook our heads no. Tony got up, walking over to the monitors and startes typing. Fury had started to complain but Tony shut him up, continuing until the image of the woman I had fought with appeared. "Yeah, that's her." I proclaimed, pointing to the monitors.
"Catastrophe?!" Fury asked, before anyone else could interrupt him. "You know her?" Tony asked. Fury then turned to glare at Tony, "I run the biggest espionage agency that deal with inhumane stuff, don't you think I would know about a vigilante that has weird powers running around the country?!" That shut Tony up.
"Well then," He then turned around to face the screens, which presented him with details on the said vigilante, little details might I add. "Why is there so little about this lady?" I asked no one in particular, my eyes running over the information, analyzing it. "Whenever we get close to her, she always disappears or ruins the data that we have obtained on her." Maria Hill, deputy director of SHIELD, replied, her voice suddenly filling the quiet room.
"So, she's our next mission?" Clint asked, looking towards Fury expectantly. "No," we all looked at him like he had grown to heads or something. When we opened our mouths to object on his decision, he raised his hand to silence us. "I know that she seems like a threat, but as of right now, she has actually been doing good, like taking down bad guys. When she does slip up, we will be there to catch her."
We all sighed nonchalantly, the idea of not putting her behind bars infuriating. "So, Cap, what's the story with your shield?" Tony smirked and I groaned in annoyance at the never ending subject.
"This, Catastrophe woman, stole it while we were fighting." Natasha opened her mouth to say something but I raised my hand to shut her up, knowing what she already had wanted to ask me. "I threw it at her in hope to disarm her, but her reflexes were better than I expected, catching it, then she jumped off from the window." I concluded, not wanting to continue the subject for this woman gave me perplexed thoughts that I could not understand, exasperating me.
Silence settled upon us as I finished my explanation, everyone present deep in thought. "Well, isn't that a bit embarrassing." Leave it to Tony to break the ice with a snarky remark. I rolled my eyes, sighing at the genius' antics. "Could you quit it, Stark?!" Annoyed, my tone of voice came out a little harsh than I had intended it to.
I ran my hand through my blonde, crisply cut hair, the short ends pricking at my hand. Fury then suddenly stood up from his designated seat, "Alright, well, as I mentioned before, this vigilante is not a threat and we will not presue her, not until we deem her as a threat." Everyone groaned, the thought of an exhilarating and adventurous mission flying out the window after Fury's words.
Then, we all calmed down, everyone fiddling with something, either the end of their sleeves, tinkering with their gadgets, or picking at their nails. "What the fùck are you all doing here? Go! Get your asses busy!" I winced slightly at the usage of curses, my old habits and ways of the 40's still evident.
Bruce Banner, the man that turns into a green rage monster but also a great scientist, walked up to me as we concluded the meeting. He walked beside me as the hallways of the Tower filled out view. "Don't worry, Cap. You'll get your shield back and if you don't, I'll make you one."
I sighed, knowing they did not know what that shield meant to me. "Bruce, it is not about whether I need a new one or not, it's the things I've experienced with that shield; battles, fights, and more fights." Bruce nodded in understanding. We continued walking in silence.
Comfortable silence filled the aura around us as we walked to the elevator, pressing onto the button of the floor we had wanted to go.
"So, I'm depending on this woman to keep her word and return my goddamned shield back."
I finally done a chapter with steve's pov. I hope you liked this one. This feels like a filler chapter to me, dunno:)
