Irene Eldridge P.O.V.
Avengers' Tower, New York

The peculiar man with eyes that seemed to peer not only into my eyes, but my soul. I remained calm. None of my fears rising as I study the man who seemed to know a lot about me.

"I presume the weird device is yours?" I titled my head to the side, folding my hands in front me as I maintained eye contact. He raised his eyebrows in amusement,"I should give you more credit, I hadn't presumed you would be smart."

A humorless laugh escaped my lips, my blood boiling , anger rising as I realized he gave ominous answers and avoided direct replies. "Why are you here?"

"Straight to the point, aren't we, Catastrophe?" I glared at him, my resolve slowly but surely peeling away with every second that I sat in the presence of this man.

"Well, at least you deserve an answer." My left eyebrow rose at his reply. "I wanted to warn you."

I sat up straight, crossing my arms in front of my chest as I ushered for him to continue. "Your mother kept your gift a secret. She knew if a certain group of people knew about it, they'll kill you and take your powers. I don't have much time, they're coming. But you must be careful, you are the only person that will bring peace, the only person that will return Earth back to humanity."

I stood up, confusion and fear coursing through me and evident on my face. "Wait, what the hell are you taking about? How do you know my mother?" He shook his head, his hands grasping tightly at the edge of the table as he struggled to breathe.

"Th- they're comm-coming for you! You must be careful. Yo-you are th-the saver."

Suddenly, a bright light shone from where he sat, as screams sounded through the room. The door burst open and in came S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents attempting to help the man.

The only thing I felt was the ringing in my ears and the hard, fast beating of my heart. I felt like I couldn't breathe, the walls seemed to be closing in on me. A hand fell upon my shoulder, as the person pulled me out of the interrogation room and towards the hallway.

My striking blue eyes met baby blues and I realized that Captain America was talking to me, his pink - and enviously plump - lips moving. I was pulled back to reality. "What?" My voice was shallow and small, quite frankly different than what it sounded before.

"Are you okay? You seem tense." I glared at him, resisting the urge to punch his perfect face. "A guy who I have no idea who, comes and tells me a war is coming and I am the only one who can beat the enemy. How do you think I'm feeling, super soldier?!" He seemed taken aback by my raw sarcasm, but I did not care at that moment.

Walking over to a tense Nick in the other room, I stood with my back to the window that peered into the other room, where that, that weird man died. "Do you have an identity for that man, Nick?"

"You need to take a walk."

"That's not what I asked." I replied, angrily.

"I'll repeat, you need to take a walk."

I sighed, frustrated. "If something happens, something I know I could've prevented,
I will never forgive myself for it. You know that, Nick." I whispered into his ear, then walked out of the room.

In the middle of the hallway, I accessed my powers. My eyes glowed a shimmering mix of gold and yellow, and my hands were swirling with gold flecks and swirls. Summoning a portal, a gold circle appeared in front of me. While others around only saw a golden, shimmering circle, I - the power wielder- could see my next destination.

Looking back, I could see Steve Rogers, among the others Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. "Thank you for you kind hospitality." I stated sarcastically. "I'll be seeing you all soon. Don't go too far."

After that, I walked through the portal, and arrived at my destination. My penthouse in New York.

Steve Rogers' P.O.V.
Avengers' Tower, New York

Catastrophe, the woman with the current unknown identity, turned to face us as she opened some sort of portal. Her eyes were a pool of golden flecks, I presume from her use of her powers. She, she looked beautiful.

After stating her thoughts, she walked through the golden circle, and it suddenly disappeared. With my arms crossed, I turned to face Nick Fury, who was standing next to me. "You didn't think it was important to tell us you know her?!" I was furious at the ex Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I couldn't believe he'd betray us like this.

The African-American spy ignored me, and my confused and furious teammates, and walked over towards the operations room right down the hall from were we stood. I threw my hands up in annoyance, seething at the elder man's actions. Did he believe he could get away from this, untouched?

Tony had beat me to confronting the man. He walked over to him, and bluntly stated, "The captain asked you a question, Fury." Anger laced his words, as he shot daggers to the side of Fury's head.

Fury turned to face us, a bored expression on his face. This only fueled the fire of rage and anger inside me. This man, the man that us Avengers, trust with our lives, disregards us like we're nothing. I couldn't believe it.

Tony and I had started arguing, apparently with just each other about the situation, because Fury gave us no regard and little of his attention - which was fixed on the monitors which portrayed the images of the tower.

"Who is she to you?"

That was the voice of Natasha. She hadn't spoken from since coming out of that interrogation room. Fury was intrigued, as he turned and gave the Russian his full attention.

He smiled, but not that kind smile that eases the moment, nor that smile that said he knew more than we did - which happened to always appear on his face, by the way. No, it was a smile full of fondness, as it seemed he had a faraway look, reminiscing the past.

"You wouldn't understand even if I told you." I opened my mouth to object, but he raised his hand to silence me. "Besides, it's not my story to tell."

"Then whose is it?" Asked Clint Barton.

"Hers." Fury stayed, pointed to the monitor which displayed the photo of Catastrophe.

In that moment, I was oblivious to the fact that this encounter, with Catastrophe, would change the course of my life entirely.
