"Grace, it's Saturday morning. The day where you get to lie in. Why are you calling me so early?" I asked, bringing my phone inside of my human burrito that I had perfectly constructed with myself and my covers.
"I know I'm sorry! But I need a favour. Actually two favours." She said.
"What do you need?"
"You. And a dress. Well, actually you in a dress and another dress for me." She said very quickly.
"Slower, Grace. And more detail."
"My parents have told me that they're going to a ball, courtesy of my dad's work. Apparently families are invited and because my dad has his head permanently inserted into his bosses ass, he wants to make a good impression, thus him ordering me to go with them."
"Thata sucks…. But what does it have to do with me?"
"I told my dad I didn't want to go and we argued back and forth for a while before he agreed to a compromise. I would go… if you came with me. Pleasepleasepleaseplease?!"
"You told him that?! Didnt you think to maybe ask me first?" I said.
"I know, I'm sorry. It was the only thing I could think of at the time. Please say you'll come? We get to wear pretty dresses and they'll be lots of cute boys in tuxes." She tried reason.
"Do I seem like the type of girl that the 'cute boys in tuxes' thing would work on?" I asked. I really wasnt into cute, pretty boys.
"No but it was worth a shot." She said.
"When is it?" I ask begrudgingly.
"Thank you thank you thank you!" She screamed down the phone. "And it's tonight ."
"Okay, but you said its a ball right? That means a gown? I don't even have one." I said.
For someone like me who comes from money, you'd be surprised how uncultured I am regarding the things that wealthy people do. I have money, yes, but I don't like to show it off. Hence me not owning a gown or other fancy things.
"That was actually the second favour I was going to ask. I want you to come dress shopping today." She very excitedly asks.
"I guess I have no choice seeing as I don't have a dress." I said.
"Perfect. I'll pick you up in an hour." She hung up before I had a chance to respond.
I got out of bed, showered and dressed in dark blue skinny jeans, a black t-shirt and a grey cardigan on top. I walked downstairs to get breakfast and saw Jake sitting on the living room sofa watching cartoons.
"You're up early." He said.
"Early bird catches the dress, as they say." I walked into the kitchen and made myself a bowl of cereal being that Tessie wasn't up yet to cook her exquisite pancakes. I went back into the living room and sat next to Jake.
"Early bird catches the what now?"
"Oh, Grace has invited me to a ball her dad's company is having, tonight so we need to go dress shopping." I explained.
"Really?" He says; a hint of disbelief in his voice.
"Yes. Why? You dont believe me?"
"Sure you're not spending the evening with Daniel again?" He said.
"You're accusing me of lying?" I couldn't belive him.
"Come on even you have to admit this whole you apparently tutoring him thing is weird. He's not the tutoring type."
