Chapter Eleven
"Alice, where have you been?" Kai asked angrily once I got out of the car.I immediately stopped laughing at the joke Carra had told before she stopped.
There he stood, right between the guard wolves at the gates, furiousness clouding his beautiful face.
"I've been worried sick about you!" He yelled.
"I apologize, Kai, I just went shopping like you told me to do." I held up the shopping bags for emphasis.
Kai let out a 'hmph,' and grabbed my arm. "Well, we only have an hour before dinner, and you aren't even ready. Thank you for escorting my mate, Carra." He smiled politely at her before turning his angry stare back to me. "Come on, Luna."
I took a deep breath, waved behind me back as a goodbye to Carra, and walked with my mate back to our cabin.
He marched me inside the house and shoved me toward the bathroom. "Hurry up, this reservation won't last forever." Kai growled.
I quickly moved into the bathroom and undressed myself, throwing on the ugliest thing I'd bought from the store, which ended up being a plain black, long sleeve dress that covered me down to the shin. I hastily put my hair up into a twist and painted my lips with a nude gloss. I really hoped I wouldn't be able to get him in the mood.
"Let's go, Luna!" Kai shouted, pounding forcefully on the door, making me jump. I glared at the shut door and took a deep breath. I seemed to be doing that a lot these days. I flung open the door and smiled.
"All set."
Kai rolled his eyes. "Good," he replied stiffly, shoving his phone into his suit jacket. "I was beginning to think you'd bled out shaving."
"Why would I shave? You love me just the way I am." I grinned, then added 'hostage and pissed' in my mind.
"I do hope to change your attitude someday, but for now, yes, I love you." I had never heard such words be said with so little affection in my entire life, even before my parents had split up.
"Great, now let's go!" I tugged him along to the limo, linking my arm in his.
The ride to this fancy restaurant was spent mostly in silence, although Kai did blather on annoyingly about his pack. I tuned him out after a while, resigning myself to watching the window, everything zooming past in the blink of an eye.
"Alice!" Kai yelled suddenly.
I flinched, instantly turning my attention to him once more.
"As I was saying, we're here." He punched the bridge of his nose, something he seemed to do often.
He opened the door and pulled my hand out after him, the rest of me forced to follow. I bit the inside of my cheek until the frustration in me evaporated. How had I gotten to this point? Never in my life had I ever obeyed anyone out of fear. I never had to, I wouldn't let myself get into those situations. And yet here I was, a man dragging me along as his faithful bitch.
"Kai!" I yelled sharply, yanking my hand out of his grasp. "I know how to walk!" I snapped.
Kai looked as if he would strike me, but that face left after a minute, replaced by a tight smile. "Yes, dear." He replied through clenched teeth, putting a hand on my back and gently pushing me.
I hopped forward and gave him a glare, telling him to back off. That's it.
I'm not going to be his bitch.
I thought of Grace and felt a stab of distance. It hurt me physically to be so far away from her. Our pull was strong and I always knew she felt it too. 'I'm comin', Gracie.' I promised her in my head.
