He knows why she had died
He knows why she had cried
He knows why she had left
And he knows what's coming next
The guilt slowly and painfully kicks in
He knows it was all because of him
His mistakes cause her to fade away
How badly she had wanted to stay
Every time he did it, respect in her eyes fell
Every time he did it, she started to crawl back in her shell
Every time he did it, she tried to forgive him
But he did it too much and he lost a beautiful gem
This gem was worth more than gold
She couldn't be bought, she couldn't be sold
A gem like her was hard to find
How? How could he have been so blind?
The memories start flooding back
Her smiles, her kisses, the way she would keep him on track
Now she haunts him in his dreams at night
But this is the only time she'll ever be in his sight
He wakes up hoping to see her by his side
Only to realize that she left to go hide
Hide away from what causes the pain
Staying with him there is nothing to gain
One day she finds another
Someone who is better
Someone who will pick up her pieces
Someone who will smooth out her creases
This news hits him in the heart
Seeing them together makes him fall apart
But she was long gone
The damage had already been done
He knows that he lied and she died
He knows that he lied and she cried
He knows that he lied and she left
And he knows that heartbreak is what's next
