Odd One Out

Many people have friends at my school. Once you enter those gates, you enter a place of happiness, love, companionship, the noise of friends talking, and many arms linked. Everyone will have people around them here at beautiful Sunny Hill Middle School. Everyone except me.

I may be the smartest and the youngest at this school, but I still know my "cool facts", but nobody knows that. I get teased often

"You haven't turned thirteen yet! Oh wait! You're not even twelve!"

Or sometimes people would mock, "Hey! How come you are always studying or reading? Do you know what a TV is?"

I would reply quietly, glumly to them. "Yes, I do."

I think that deciding to go to middle school early was the biggest mistake of my life. These people don't know that I do in fact know what a TV is, and maybe I want to read and study to do well in school. Being in middle school isn't worse than that ..but J Ryder Rodriguez makes every second of being at this miserable place worth it. He's smart, good looking, and strong. I've known J since the first day of middle school , but we rarely talk. I see him in the hallways at school and we sometimes walk together to our two classes that we have together. Sometimes, we even have short conversations, but it's not so bad when I get a glimpse of his dreamy brown eyes twice a day. I was hoping that J would want to ask me to the upcoming dance this Friday, but who would want to go with an eleven year old?

I sigh and push the thought from my mind as the lunch bell rings. I decide to go to the Library to do my homework. Since I finish it quickly, I walk aimlessly around the campus. I see a few people I know, but none I want to talk to. Suddenly I turn around and J is there.

"Hey, Krystal, what's up?" J says to me after carefully smoothing his hair down.

"Hi! Nothing much is going on, you know, just the usual. How's swimming?" I reply shyly.

"Not bad. We just had a meet this weekend and I almost forgot about the history test today," he chuckles a little.

After a minute or two of an awkward silence, he smiles and takes a deep breath. "So. Krystal..." he starts, "Are you going to the dance Friday?"

My heart starts beating rapidly and I am at a loss of words. The only thing that comes out of my mouth is a strangled laugh. When I am out of my short hysteria, I remember that he is still standing there and I almost shout yes. He looks relieved even though he shouldn't have been nervous in the first place. He mumbles, "And, so, uh..." he shifts his weight and looks down. "You're really smart and stuff... Oh God, how do I explain this... Do you have a date yet?" He looks up and exhales. I smile and exclaim, "I do now!"

Another short story I wrote when I was in 7th grade. OMG... looking back on old memories... fjskfljsfks
