Poem: A Cruel Daunting Game

She thought she wouldn't be able to love again

Her heart and trust had long been broken

She cried herself to sleep each night

Laying awake, continuing to fight

Trying to forget him became a war

Battling each day, she didn't get far

The pain was evident in her eyes

The sleepless nights when she told herself lies

Deceived by her own thoughts and troubled mind

The truth soon became hard to find

She thinks he still loves her, that he still cares

But reality comes to slap her and she fills up with tears

Why can't she move past this boy?

The one who took her as nothing but a toy

Lifeless and cold-hearted she soon became

Love is nothing but a cruel daunting game

Now she doesn't know how to feel

Are her wounds starting to heal?

Emotionless she wanders around

Hoping that one day she can be found

It's a journey and she's all alone

Getting farther and farther away from home

The boy she still loves is with someone else

Pain and agony has trapped her in its cells

She tells herself that she won't cry

Of course that's nothing but another empty lie

Her scars are still there even though months have gone by

She can't let go of him even after all this time

Two years later she sees his face

In a small coffee shop in the marketplace

Nothing happens, her heart doesn't skip a beat

She has finally learned to walk on her own two feet

His name is familiar but at the same time so foreign

She thought she lost so how did she end up winning?

She lost the boy who didn't treat her right

And thus won the long gruesome fight
