Grandpapa Murphy was a kind and honest man.Everyone here in Cairnholm knows that, but there are times that he would get cold towards to others, especially to strangers. During the war, my grandfather decided to fight in the field to support his childhood friend, one of his closest friends. Abraham Portman. For a while, he had killed the monsters that walked in the darkest parts of the world, but there was always more to come in the end.
For years my grandfather fought these creatures with Abraham that he had a sudden doubt that he would least likely settle down with a woman. That is until he met my grandmother, Lucille Beaunoir.
It was kind of ironic how they met actually. Grandpapa Murphy was injured in one of his hunts and the wounds were so bad that he had to go to the nearest hospital where my grandmother worked.During his recovery, my grandmother Lucille was assigned to check the heart monitor and changed his IV bag. She was there when Grandpapa woke up for the first time from the night he came and he accidentally thought that he was in heaven. Because the first sight his eyes laid on was Lucille who he thought was an angel.
"Am I in heaven?" he asked.
"No, you're in a hospital." Nana said.
"But why are you here?"
She kindly laughs at his question. "I am your nurse. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Then why do you look like an angel?"
That shut my Nana in surprised until she came to her senses and kindly asked him to rest so she could get the doctor.
Months later, things happened, and then boom instant lovers.
It was kind of hard for my grandmother to love a man who hunts monsters alongside with his friend but they made it work. Grandpapa became more determined ever since he met his other half, his soul mate, the one who holds his heart for all eternity. He wrote letters to grandmother so very often along with pictures of the places he had traveled and promised to show it to her when he returned.
It wasn't long 'til his best mate Abraham had found a love of his own, Grandpapa was happy for him, and yet he was worried for he knew that deep down, there was another who had loved Abraham first before their hunting phase.
But Abraham assured him that it was already taken care of. And that he explained the reason to his first beloved that fate and instinct had led him where he is now, and he wasn't going to stop anytime soon. Grandpapa didn't understand at first, but he trusted him.
Years went by and Grandpapa had his first born child. My father, Henric Francois Peregrine.
Grandpapa and Nana went to Grandpapa's birth home in Cairnholm where they meet with some of his old friends. Unfortunately, Abraham wasn't there for he had some business to attend to in London to meet a man who he thought could help make the business easier.
A couple years later, my father had shown some interest in weapon training with Grandpapa every time when he was taken to watch him practice shooting at cans that were tied and anging under a tree branch. Grandpapa had seen some potential in my father when he asked if he wanted to try to shoot a can. His first shot was a bullseye.
So Grandpapa Murphy decided, with Nana Lucille's approval of course, that he will show him the ways to kill the monsters that destroyed his childhood. And maybe one day, he would bring him on a hunt with him.
And he did.
In my father's teenage years he became a skilled shooter and followed Grandpapa Murphy's footsteps and became the warrior that he was raised to be. Not to mention that my Nana Lucille had also joined the business right before my father was born.
They were 'The Three Musketeers', the wolves of the night. Protecting every land they went. But even if they hunted, Grandpapa Murphy and Grandmother Lucille still made sure that my father goes to school while he had the chance.
By the end of his, should we say 'College' years, my father went on his own for a while and along the way he met my mother, Christella Jones. He saved her from one of the monsters that almost killed her for being. . . well 'her'.
Later, after years of happiness and love. My father decided to settle down and married my mother.
And then they had me, Perry Elanus Jones. The first female born into the Peregrine Family after all these last decades. Lovely isn't it?
Well, you might be wrong. Because even if being born in the Peregrine Family as a girl was a miracle. It also makes me a target for the monsters.
The reason? Let's just say after this long short story of my family history, you should know by now that my family is more different from any other. And I like it that way. . . most of the time. But the real reason is that there are some people who will come for me because of my blood. What's swimming through my veins is ancient. Past down to every woman of my family for the past hundreds of years.
The blood of a protector, a mother.
A Ymbryne.
In the first hour of my birth, Grandpapa Murphy was ecstatic to find that I was a girl. And yet frightened that my existence will draw attention to the monsters (that I can say finally) call Wights and Hollows.
Deadly creatures that I've been hunting my kind for years. Trying desperately to catch gifted people. Ones that the Ymbrynes are sworn to protect.
Peculiars.
