~Chapter Two~
Perdition
~*~The eight of us squeezed into the beaten up land rover and set off on a long journey to our destination, Perdition.
Translation- Hell.
I am not quite sure why it is called Hell. It definitely doesn't look so. It is actually quite beautiful there. A clearing surrounded by pine trees, hidden away by a wall of rock, a creek flowing beside it. It was more like a place of heaven.
As we got further and further away from Paris and into the rural farm area, the road became narrower and rougher. It soon became a bumpy ride. Alya and I had done this before so it wasn't such a hard thing to deal with.
But you could tell Chloe wasn't enjoying it so much. She in fact, look like she was going to be sick.
Nino wasn't making the situation better. He leant to the side of her and began to tease her."It sucks to have that motion sickness, feeling light headed and queasy." The car rocked and around."Are you okay Chloe? You look like you are going to- you know, blegh." He said, making vomiting sounds.
Chloe had her hand on her chest an tried to keep her composure. She began to swallow hard, making Nino smirk,"it stuck at the back of your throat, isn't it? You think it is gonna settle down but then it comes shooting up."
That did it and Chloe swiftlets leant over Nathaniel and puked through the car window."You are evil Nino," I stated.
We reached the cliff that lead to the dark pine forest. There was a hiking path along the cliff that lead downwards. We parked the car on the side of the cliff without worries, knowing that no one will be here to steal it. We unpacked the backpacks for everyone until I came across Chloe's shiny yellow suitcases.
I laid it on the floor and stared at Chloe, who shrugged her shoulders innocently,"what?"
For the next ten minutes, Myléne, Alya and I helped Chloe sort out the things she thourght she needed to the things she actually needed and putting them into a spare backpack. I sorted through her clothes to find a whole make up box stashed inside. I took it out and raised my eyebrows,"make up?"
"You never know who you are going to meet,"she said, stuffing it back in,

The next part of the journey was the hard part. Trying to get down there. It was a hard climb, squeezing past boulders, making sure we still were on the path. We needed teamwork to get each of us down a four metre drop.
Adrien got down first and Nathiel tossed him the luggage. He lightly dropped it down an Adrien caught it easily,"give it a better throw sweetheart!" He teased. And so he threw it down hard, knocking Adrien to the ground.
I carefully placed my foot on the roots of the tree that wrapped around the rocky wall. The root wasn't all that easy to step down onto even though it was strong. You could easily slip. I think Adrien noticed this so he quickly came under me and held out his arms,"I'll help you out. Just one step at a time, okay Mari?"
I felt myself go red and began to stutter,"er okay," I mumbled. I wasn't afraid of falling since I was only four metres above the ground, I was nervous because Adrien was trying to help me down and I didn't want to make a complete fool out of myself. I cautiously took step by step down the ladder like roots.
I lost my balance when I felt Adrien's warm hand on my leg and I slipped, and suddenly his hands were on my waist, making me go redder then ever."You, okay?" He stammered. I nodded and her slowly carried me down. He looked at me for a while before Nino called out to him,"you coming Romeo?"
.:!:.
It was stinking hot by the afternoon as we all began to sweat like crazy. It seemed that we had been walking for hours and we were beginning to become reckless. Chloe and Nathaniel were getting impatient.
Alya lead in from of the exhausted line."Do you know where we are going Alya?"Nathaniel asked impatiently.
She stopped and smiled with satisfaction,"we've made it."
A clearing stood in front of us, surrounded by a wall of rock eight metres high and a creek flowing past."Welcome to Perdition," I exclaimed.
.:!:.
For the rest of the afternoon we just set up camp and collected sticks for the fire that night. We all just had sleeping bags and slept under the stars. Everyone except Adrien, his dad insisted that he would sleep in a tent so he wouldn't get bitten by mosquitoes or any possible insects.
I sat with Chloe under a tree. I was very curious about her. Even though we were now friends I still didn't know much about her. It turns out that she is pretty lonely.
"So you are saying that you have never been asked out before," I said in astonishment. Chloe shook her head sadly,"but Chloe, you're beautiful!"
She shrugged,"no one has asked me. Remember that I used to be a bitch and people? It probably put guys off." She murmured and twiddled her thumbs."And I'm not beautiful. My mum was beautiful. She won Miss Paris four years in a row you know. I asked if I could audition the last year but she said it was a bad idea."
I frowned at this, why would her mother put her down like that? She WAS beautiful. A lot of girls would die to look like her. And she is made to feel insecure about her appearance.
"Anyway, I am doing really well in school at the moment so, it doesn't matter." She looked up and smiled,"but someone will ask me out someday. I don't know when or where. And I don't know who. And that's exciting."
I smiled in agreement. I spun my head around to Nathaniel. He had a stick that was like a staff in his hands."OHLEY OHLEY OHLEY!" He shouted,"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"
.:!:.
We all sat around the fireplace that night. Telling ghost stories, re calling old memories, cracking jokes and laughing while eating toasted marshmellows.
I felt someone's eyes on me. I turned to meet Adrien's green eyes. He smirked before eating a toasted marshmellows. I blushed and turned to Alya, who wiggled her eyebrows teasely.
"Hey guys, do you know why they call it Perdition?" Myléne asked after the place went silent.
"I think it is just a name people have plastered on it because, it seems wild. We put names on things without knowing much about it except for the first impressions," Nathaniel said, without taking his eyes off Chloe.
"Let's keep this place secret, otherwise it will be trashed by the time we revisit," Alya said.
I stood up and raised my mug,"a toast to Hell."
"Cheers," the group said in unision, raising there mugs together.
What we didn't know that this was one of the last nights we were happy. After the war began, things were never the same for any of us.
I don't know when I will find the happiness again.
.:!:.
I woke up in the early morning to the sound of loud engines coming from above me. I wearily looked up to see dozens and dozens of low flying planes. All heading the same direction. I hear a groan and I could see Alya had woken up,"what is that smell?" She mumbles.
"Jet fuel," I said, taking one last look at the planes before laying back down and falling back to sleep.
