~Chapter Five~
People Change~*~
It is said that in times of extremity, people change or they find a part of themselves they didn't know existed.
After that night I blew up the lawnmower, I changed. I no longer feel like the average eighteen year old girl; studying, being with friends and talking about cute boys. I was no longer that girl. I became an outlaw on the run and my friends became my fellow gorillers. Rugged soldiers. Not children.
I wasn't the only one who changed. Others changed. In different ways but we all changed.
We might of changed for the good but we cannot go back now.
.:!:.
My heart was pounding as the three of us ran. My hair was singed and I had a reasonable burn on my leg. Nino and I supported the limping Alya back to Nathaniel's house.
It sunrise and we weren't sure if Chloe an Nathaniel would have waited for us. We finally made it there and open the door. We were immediately greeted by the two."Oh my god! We were so worried about you guys!"
"Alya is injured," I said, helping Alya onto the couch. Nathaniel looked at me and I realised I was still holding the gun from the soldier.
"Where did you get that?"
I didn't answer. I guess I was ashamed and I didn't want to talk about how I killed someone I didn't know. I just laid down the gun on the kitchen bench. I sat by Alya now cringing in pain. Chloe brought in antiseptic cream and bandages from the pantry.
"Where's Myléne and Adrien?" I asked.
"They haven't. Returned," Chloe mumbled.
A million thoughts went into my head. We all agreed to meet at Nathaniel's house at dawn. I was getting light and they haven't turned up. What was holding them? Have they been captured?
Have they been killed?
I grabbed the gun,"we have to find them," I exclaimed as Chloe took hold of my wrist.
"We can't go out there now, Marinette," Nino exclaimed.
"Wait until it is nighttime okay?" Alya assured me. I nodded.
"You can't do that! The place will be crawling with soldiers. It is a suicide mission! We have to leave them," Nino argued.
"What if it was you missing, would you want us to abandon you?" Alya asked, annoyed. She was angry at him for leaving us.
I lowered my head, remembering the soldier I had murdered. Murdered. It sounded so wrong.
I knew I only did what I had to do to defend myself. To save me. To save Nino and Alya.
I have learnt not to think about the people who have died because of me. I have learnt not to think of it as personal.
Nathaniel placed a hand on my shoulder. "Hey Mari, we will find them okay?"
.:!:.
We gathered as many supplies as we could find at Nathaniel's house before departing and heading off to where we left the motorbikes. We decided to stay out at the farm we went to second and because the land rover was there.
I allowed the others to go infront. Mainly because I would lose my way. I wasn't concentrating too well. I had been affected by the lawnmower incident. It began to change me.
