Thomas pov
I woke up very confused. I looked around me, I recognized the room.
Hospital.
I didn't know why I was here, but I needed some time alone.Unfortunately a nurse walked in.
"Oh hi, how long have you been awake?" She asked.
"Three minutes" I said slow and slightly irritated.I was done with this whole thing already.
"What's your name?" The nurse asked.
"Why am I here? What happened to me?" I asked, not bothering to listen to what she said.
"Listen boy, we'll get there, just tell me your name first"
I sighed, "Thomas"
"Last name?"
"Sangster"
She wrote a few things down, and then got back to me.
"So you don't remember what happened?" She asked while her big brown eyes stared at me.
"N-no" I stuttered as the flashbacks came back.
I still didn't know what happened, but I remembered what Dylan had done.Tears filled my eyes and I turned my face towards the window on my left.
"Something tells me that you do remember something. My name is Lisanne" the nurse said.
"I don't want to talk about it" I said while a single tear rolled down my left cheek.
"That's okay, but if you want to, I'm here"
I nodded.
Lisanne left my room. Now I was alone, it was quiet. That was great, I liked silence.
I stared out the window.
My gaze landed on someone sitting on a swing on the playground of the hospital.
Alone.
Just like me.Half an hour later a man came in.
"Hello, I'm agent Jesse Allen, you are Thomas right?"
I nodded, suddenly forgotten how to speak.
"I have more information about your mother" Jesse said.
I straightened myself, waiting for him to tell me more."Thomas, this might be shocking, an-"
"Just bloody tell me!" I was anxious for what he'd say next.
I kept telling myself, "It can't be that bad, right?"
But unfortunately he said:
"Your mom was part of a group that deals drugs, we've been trying to find them for years"
This time I didn't faint, I didn't scream, I didn't cry.
Lately so much shit had been going on in my life and I accepted it now, this was my life and I had to deal with it.
So I just said "okay" and let it go."Just 'okay', you're not going to ask how all of this happened?"
Jesse said full disbelieve."Well, then bloody tell me" I said, even though I sweared, I was calm. I didn't even know where this attitude came from, but I liked it. Finally I felt like I didn't have to take care of everything, like I could say what I really wanted to say.
"Okay, well first of all, do you know why your parents are divorced"
I shook my head, I never really thought about it. I always assumed it was because they didn't love each other anymore.
"Well, it was because your mother was - and is - part of a group drugs dealers. Your dad always knew about this, but he never reported her. You know why? Because of you."
I was astonished.
Jesse continued,
"But a couple of days ago, he finally called us. He wants you to live with him, Thomas"
And suddenly I understood something.
{Throwback to chapter 13}
When the school called because I wasn't there, my mom only cared about my safety, not my education.
My mom probably got threatened.
"I don't think it's her fault" I said, not sounding offended at all.
Jesse sighed. "I know you say that because it's your mom, and I-"
"No, I say this because I think she was forced to" and I explained why I thought that.
"Okay, but she's still guilty"
True that.A/N
