Iris' POV
When we arrived back in buffalo Riley was placed in a hospital the next day. She began to get worse and worse. I was with her every day. She then died a week later. The girls and I began planning her funeral with her parents. I began to get closer to her mother… it was something she never had.
Her funeral was on the next Wednesday. This was the first time that I really cried. I will keep my promise to her though. Her parents talked about how sorry they were for not getting to know her after their son died. They then asked me to come up.
I began. "Riley when she first arrived here in buffalo the first thing I've ever said to her was that boys weren't allowed. I then learned she was a female and that I was the first girl she had talked to. She loved to swim, and to play volleyball, she was one heck of a basketball player. Even if she didn't know what she was doing." The girls laughed at the memory. "The first day she told me she loved me was through a song she played on the piano. We all knew she could play and sing. Riley earned a full-ride scholarship to Julliard after playing the song at a school wide concert. She wrote more than six songs this year.
Before I met Riley I was the rudest person, she changed me. I was so uptight… a month after she moved here to buffalo we went to a dance club with all her friends from Seattle. She literarily made me get up and dance.
At the last concert of the year she announced that she had cancer. I was mad at her for not telling me. I was hurt that she didn't tell me. But then she told me the reason why. She didn't want people to treat her differently. Which happened, even I who claimed I loved her treated her differently. She then got put in the hospital. I was there every day. She then told me that she wasn't ready to die and that she would fight to stay alive for me. That was a little over a month ago.
The night we got married she didn't want to celebrate. I didn't notice anything. We stayed on the balcony and then came back home the next day. She made me promise her that I would only grieve for her for a year and then to move on. She was my best friend… she was my wife, and I loved her… for she changed me and everyone else that was a part of her life."
At that we had an open casket. Each person gave their respects. After everyone gave their respect her casket was closed and carried to a hoarse. We rode to the cemetery and buried her 6 feet under. I stayed after for a while.
-a year later-
It's been a year since I buried my wife. Though I miss her it was time to get up off my couch in my apartment the in laws had bought me. I had to get out there. By that I would continue on with college that I started in the winter season the past year.
I left the apartment to go to the flower shop. I grabbed the same lily's I did every time I visited her grave. I simply walked to the cemetery and to her grave. I placed the flowers there, and whispered. "Hey Riley, it's been a year. You expect me to keep my promise now. I'm doing well in school. Your parents call me every day. They always ask me how I am doing. I miss you. But I should get going."
I then started walking when I heard someone say "Wait." I turn and there was a female standing there.
"Who is she to you?" she asked.
"She is or was my wife." I answered her.
"How'd she die?"
"Cancer."
"What did you mean by keeping your promise?"
"She made me promise that I would only grieve for a year then I had to get back out there to find love again. Who are you here for?" I asked.
"My mum, she died two years ago to this date. By the way my name is Kayla."
"Iris. You're mom she died from what?"
"The same."
"Oh." I looked up and smiled. "My Riley and your Mom may be friends now."
"Why do you say that?"
"Well they brought us together here." Riley you crazy girl, you knew that this was going to happen for a while now and didn't even give me a hint.
"Would you want to go and get coffee?"
"Why yes that would be nice." I smiled back up.
A/N: Hey guys sorry the last two updates are really short but this is the ending. See the people of the dead work mysteriously.
