The concert was tonight, I was really nervous. No one in the choir knew that I was playing my song until this morning. We ran through every song in the concert. The last thirty minutes of class everyone was order to be quiet for my song. I sang:
All my life
I've been trying
All my life
I've been crying
Never found a love
To last
All my life
You were waiting
All my life
Hesitating
Couldn't find a love
To last
All my life
People saying
All my life
I've been praying
Couldn't find a love
To last
Now at last
I've found you
Come so fast
Arms around you
Now I've found a love
To last
It was quiet when I finished, one of the girls who always sneers at me had tears in her eyes. The rest of the class finally clapped. The bell suddenly rang; I gathered all my belonging really slow. The girl that was on the verge of tears came to me, grabbed my hand, smiled, and walked away. I place my bag on my right shoulder and walked out the classroom to find Iris waiting.
"What took you so long?"
"One of the girls that absolutely hates me just shook my hand."
"Why?"
"She was on the verge of tears after she heard me play my song. The whole choir loved it."
"You know everyone is going to wonder who the song is about."
"Yeah well it's none of their business."
"Hey, Riley?!" someone yelled behind us. Iris and I turned around.
"Oh, what's up Jamie?"
"I was wondering if you could help me with the third number before tonight. I'm kinda stuck at the part where it shifts."
"Um…" I looked at Iris and she just nodded her head at me. "Yeah, I'll help you after dinner come to my dorm."
"Okay, thanks. See you later then." She said walking off.
We walked to gym and the girls just stood there looking at us. "What took you two so long?" Taye asked.
"Jamie from my choir asked me if I could help her out with a song before tonight." I replied.
"And Iris you're going along with it?" Taye asked shocked.
"They'll be in our room so it's not a problem."
"Wow, we're proud of you, hun. You learned how to control your jealousy." Joni stated.
"Ha-ha, we're going into the gym now." Iris said grabbing my hand and pulling me out the locker room door to the gym.
Iris and I skipped lunch; we went outside for a walk around the school. There was no one outside, Iris' hand grazed mine, it swung back and I caught it in my hand. I interlaced our fingers together. She looked up at me. I brought her hand up to my lips and kissed it. I think that was the first time I seen Iris blush, and this blush was a deep crimson. We sat down on the nearest bench. We we're silent; honestly we didn't need to talk.
