I've always had a connection with younger kids. One child in particulars name was Jacob. He was s sweet 9 years old boy with Down syndrome. As I started getting older I saw the world around me. I wanted to make a difference. At school I eat lunch with the "Special Needs". At work (I'm a part time karate instructor) I help teach a special needs program on Sunday's. I was talking to a girl with autism and she told me about how much she hated special treatment. It was then I realized that not only are people being put down but people are being put on pedestals. In reality we are all humans. Why should my friend with autism be lied to?
I watched another girl in school. Her name is Salina. She had autism as well. I saw the "populars" bully everyone they could but then they were sweet to Salina. They were two faced. Salina hated that just because she was autistic the "popular" girls were nice to her. Doing that isn't even nice if you think about it. You lead the person to think you're friends. You make them feel great and then ignore them and laugh about them behind their backs? It's vile.
This campaign isn't saying "yell at the boy with no legs because he can't run," it's saying treat everyone equally. Yes give some extra patience to the child who's hearing is impaired. Give him an extra second to process your words. Don't fake it though.
If you would help the autistic kid pic up his book why wouldn't you do that for the "nerd"?
Equality.
It doesn't mean putting people on pedestals and throwing others to the ground. It means everyone is treated equally. Why does Gigi Hadid (A model) get to be dressed in a certain designers clothes, when an equally famous woman who isn't a size 4 or less doesn't get the same treatment.
Why does the elderly taxi driver get a ten dollar tip but the pretty girl with blonde hair gets fifty?
