Taylor's POV

The sound of tires splashing through the constantly rising water sends a flood of relief throughout me.

I see Carter's dads truck drive up, and in seconds Carter is running to me.

The water is murky, and it's hard to see where the wire is that is trapping Ezhno.

"Carter, get Ezhno out," I beg.

He nods, and takes a pair of wire cutters from his Dad. Then he dives straight under water.

After what seems like hours, he emerges from the water.

"He just has one more leg trapped," Carter informs me, before diving down again.

I grasp Ezhno's halter. I'm surprised he even has a halter on- oh right, when they were trying to take him away, he must have been wearing it.

"Toss me a lead rope," I bark, and Carter's dad willingly complies throwing a lead out to me.

I clip it on to Ezhno's halter, and wait for Carter to come up.

What if he got stuck? Oh please, please let him come up.

When I see his face, I feel a weight lift off of my chest. I was scared for a moment there.

I wordlessly hand him the lead. He understands, and try's to get Ezhno to walk towards the trailer.

Ezhno's nostrils flare, partially in fear, but also in exhaustion. Using what I know has to be every ounce of his remaining energy and pure willpower, he slowly walks toward the trailer. The second he reaches it, he collapses on the floor. But at least he's free and in the trailer.

"Come on Taylor, the waters rising and we need move."

I didn't realize how high the water is. The truck is on higher ground than me, but where I am, the water is up to my neck. Good thing they got here when they did, or else Ezhno and I would have been in trouble.

I start to trudge over to the truck when a sharp pain cuts through my right leg. I tug at it again, and the results are the same. I yelp in pain as red starts to rise in the water- blood.

"Carter I think I'm stuck," I gasp, panic apparent in my voice. The barbed wire is cutting deeper and deeper into my leg, and although I know I'm just making it worse, I struggle against the sharp metal.

Carter's eyes glaze over in fear, as he dives down. The water is so high now that I have to tilt my head back just to breathe.

Carter comes up for air, before diving down again. In moments, the water will be over my head.

Before I become completely submerged, I take a deep breath.

As the water surrounds me, I can't help but think it might be my last breath.
