Two weeks have passed since my accident. I go in to a rehabilitation three times a week for physical therapy. The doctors say that, in time, my leg will heal. We are all hopeful that I'll regain full mobility, but theres a chance I'll have a bit of a limp.
Ezhno is still at the vet, but the most recent x-rays show bone growth, and that's a very good sign. The vet said that his leg will be fully healed around the time I start school.
The judge has decided that, due to my injuries, I no longer have to do community service. Which is good, because I can't really see myself picking up garbage off of the side of the road.
I've gotten to know Carter's parents better, especially his mom. She took me shopping, and bought me all sorts of clothes, making my wardrobe more diverse than a few t shirts and some ratty pairs of jeans.
Beau and Chloe, the other dog, get along great, and... They are expecting puppies. The due date is one month from now, but it could be later or earlier.
Carter has been so sweet and helpful throughout this whole ordeal. When I was using the wheelchair, he'd take me down to the barn every morning so I could see the horses. And I go to the vet at least every other day, if not more.
Now I'm on crutches, but I still can't walk unaided. But everyone's so helpful. It's nice to have people I can lean on. It's the first time in a long time that I've had a family.
Today is the day that Ezhno comes home. I'm waiting with Carter's mom on the front porch for the boys to get back with him.
He'll be on strict stall rest, not to be let out to pasture. Twice a week someone will lunge him in the round ring, but only at a walk. Ezhno still has a long road again.
But at least he's coming home.
The truck wheels down the driveway, causing my heart to flutter. Every second my horse draws nearer.
I hear an excited whinny, and want to run to him, but I can't due to my leg.
Once the truck is parked, Carter goes around to the trailer, and opens it up.
Ezhno rushes out, straight over to me. He seems oblivious to the big, green cast on his leg, even with his slight limp.
I stand to my feet, and hobble over to him. Dropping my crutches, I wrap my arms around his head, and hug him tightly.
"Hey boy. I missed you," I coo.
In response, he nudges my shoulder, accidentally knocking me over.
Carter rushes to my side, but I just laugh.
"You okay?" he asks. I shake my head quickly.
"No- I'm perfect," I reply.
