The smell of smoke clouded my senses as I walked through the passage of an unknown house.
My legs carried my body to an unexplored territory of the haunting shelter. The sun streamed through the windows placed on the sides showing me the latent smoke particles under its light.
It seemed empty but my heart told me otherwise as it took over my body's actions.
"Melissa." It called out, the voice reaching out to me. The raw darkness in it's depth sent unpleasant chills down my spine.
I turned to be greeted with silence.
"Hello?" My voice echoed through the hallways."Melissa." The voice called out again and this time I followed it. This time, it's voice sounded like a steel chair dragging itself across concrete.
A silhouette stood staring out of the window, I squinted to try and recognise the hooded figure.
"Who are you?" I questioned with curiosity.
"I'm nothing but the opposite of life, his brother,
Someone who sets fear.
I am the inevitable truth,
In the future, it'll just be me and you, but don't worry my dear friend,
As this, is not the end.
I'm your humble guide over the bridge of life.
Open your eyes, as there is a world beyond your imagination.
You'll take my hand as we begin our journey to the final destination." The figure laughed menacingly as he recited his purpose, making me stand stunned."Why?" I whispered out, after gaining much needed courage.
"You're running out of time, the hour glass almost empty. Look at yourself, isn't it me you see?" And as though the world bent to his command, a mirror appeared beside me.
I saw what he spoke of, I saw what he called fear.
Because when I stood before my reflection, it was of me in a white hospital gown. My long hair no longer siding my face but a black beanie covered my skull.
Petrified I pulled off the covering, pale hairless skin stood out in the sunlight.
"See now?" His taunting laugh echoed in the halls of the house. I did see, my life coming to an end.
I moved my fingers over my head and it wasn't smooth hair I used to feel, it was flesh. He laughed on seeing my demise nearing.
"Come, child. Tick tock, tick tock. Is there something more you need to know?" Horrendous laughter filled my ears as he kept mocking me, and I knew life only stood in the corner, weeping at it's loss.
But bullies were meant to be taught a lesson.
"I have time, plenty of time."
And so I did.
