Delphi POV
The pale green walls around me suffocated me, the haunting sound of footsteps hurrying past me- some of patients, some of the doctors and the most loud ones of the grieving. The strong stench of disinfectant made my eyes water, or perhaps it was the hand I was holding. The steel bench I was seated on creaked under my restless shifting.
The doctor wearing the signature white coat came out of the sliding doors I had been staring at for the past three hours. His somber expression made me stand upright at once, pulling with me the weak body beside.
"Is everything alright?" I asked in a hushed whisper knowing that only I was able to find my voice among all in the audience. I frowned as the doctor did not immediately extend to calm my nerves but instead shifted his eyes to the bent figure leaning on me.
"I'm sorry, we did everything we could." The world stilled around me, my palm suddenly cold and a loud thud echoed in the now empty hospital.
Two Weeks Earlier
Vince POV
I turned my back on the first girl I ever loved, left her in the darkness amongst monsters I had introduced her to. Yes, it was the only way, at least that's what I told myself. I forced myself to not look back for I knew I'd be drawn to her, to kill all those who ever thought of hurting her.
I reached home, knowing that my father would be comfortably seated in the quaint house, counting on her success. I took a deep breath and entered through the front door, unsurprisingly my father was sipping beer on the couch, my mother obediently stood beside him perhaps waiting for his next request, after all he was her drug supplier she could not possibly anger him even if it cost her her dignity or her son. I made an attempt to swallow my anger, not wanting him to catch on.
His men surrounded the living room, each eyeing my ever motion.
"The prodigal son returns." His gruff voice made me scowl, I did not reduce the intensity of my glare instead hoped my eyes could kill him.
"Woah, woah, calm down there, tiger." He smirked at me, but I knew the look he was giving me, he was still analysing if Melissa went through with his act, "Come and have a beer, yeah?"
I did what I would do normally when I was upset or angry, I gave him the finger and made an attempt to leave the toxic environment but Gary, on of my dad's minions stood in my way.
"Now, now, son, that is not how you talk to the man who gave you life." He shook his head at me but I could see that it was working, he was starting to believe me. I did not move, only continued to glare at him.
"Come sit, son. We have a lot to discuss." I eyed the gun that was with Gary, maybe if I shot them all I would be able to breathe in peace.
"I'm sure we do, father." I hissed, "but as you can sense, I don't give a fuck. Discuss with your wife, she's more than eager." My harsh words would've affected my sober mother but the one in my vicinity was too stoned to care.
"Is that a way to talk to your mother?" He ran his finger down her cheek, an action she followed around like a slave, and I hate to admit this but my next actions had nothing to so with that disgusting scene. I pulled the gun out of Gary's holster and aimed right at my fathers forehead. I knew I would not miss and my father was aware of that information as well for he was the one who made me able but he raised his hand, halting his men in their actions.
"Shoot me, son, do it." He taunted, "be the monster I am." At his words I stilled, and I could see he was wondering what I'd do next, if I would take the bait.
I aimed, and I fired. I heard his scream, I heard his men ceasing me but I could not help but breathe easy.
The big bad wolf was clutching his shoulder in agony I knew where I shot and I had a very vivid understanding of the pain it caused.
"You forget, father, children are supposed to surpass their parents." I chuckled at his red face, ignoring my mother who giggled like a lunatic in the background. His eyes were filled with rage, but a kind of relief too, he believed it worked that Melissa had successfully broken my heart and with it my morals.
He laughed through his pain, gesturing to his men to leave me and address his wound.
"You always do cross my expectations, Vince." He smirked at me and left with his gang leaving my darling mother behind, of course.
"Be at the club tomorrow by noon we have much work to do." Were his parting words.
I pulled out my phone next, seeing three messages all from a family I could no longer deal with, I took out my sim and broke it in two. I could no longer take shelter with the Colespars.
My plan would require time, and resources both of which I could only get from the Hellion so at noon the next day I reported to it's leader.
"Time to step up, son." He said simply, handing me a loaded gun. I took it, it's weight more than just a physical quantity.
"You see, after hearing about your betrayal, I thought of putting you down," His words no longer harmed me, "but then I realised, you're the heir to this big empire." I didn't utter a word, trying to figure out the outcome of this conversation.
"And last night you did me proud, Vincent." I wanted to correct him, point out that that wasn't my name but a part of me knew he was just waiting for me to crack.
"You showed me you were worthy of the throne after all," He circled me, assessing my worth still, I believed, "So, I've decided you'll no longer be hidden from the ugly. To be the king, one must know the work of a peasant." He waved his hand and his men brought out a man blind folded and his hands tied.
"Shoot." He commanded without a flinch. The man looked like he was forty, maybe he had children, a wife, a home.
"He stole from me, betrayed me but unfortunately for him, he ain't family. So boy, let me show you the other side of your actions." He cocked his head and Gary removed the black rie that was around the man's eyes.
My hands shook, the gun weighing a ton. I hadn't killed before, and my morals still ordered me to turn around and run but I stood there, I had to gain his trust again only then would it all end. Was that an excuse for my actions? I couldn't tell.
"I said," My father spoke through gritted teeth, forcing my hands to aim the gun," Shoot!"
You can bring a horse to a river but you can't make it drink, they said.
Yet a gunshot was loud and clear.
