The alarm sure knew how to wake people up. The morning birds chirped but the sound of a robotic bird screeching pretty much showed them their place. So much for not disturbing the nature.
I woke up whilst rubbing my eyes only to see Chelsea still sleeping with her mouth slightly ajar. I took the golden opportunity to change my clothes and freshen up in peace.
How she managed to sleep through the ear piercing sound was beyond me. Someone should really recommend another tune, if that sound were to break my slumber for the following days I was definitely going to be the grumpiest camper here.
"Chelsea, wake up!" I threw her sweater at her and she jolted up her hair sticking up in every direction, her lips puckered up in a pout.
"What? Who? Why?" She rushed out, throwing her hands around.
"Nothing, it's time. Let's go or else you'll miss that bath you wanted to take." I chuckled seeing her reaction as she quickly got up. I knew it was cruel to hurry her up after I woke her up late.
"I'll be outside you take your time." I said, seeing her hopping around with one leg inside her pant and her hand reaching out for her shirt.
Laughing softly, I left the tent. The camp was still dimly lit as the sun hadn't risen up as yet nor had all the students.Though, I did see Ryder, telling me that Jake was still sleeping.
"Hey, Ryder, where is Jake?" I asked.
"He is still snoring, I don't know how through that awful noise. Chelsea?" He said, with his nose scrunched up as he described the morning alarm.
"Same. Kids I tell you. That alarm was horrendous, sounded like a chalk piece scratching the board." He chuckled along with me, "I'll go wake him up, Chelsea is getting ready so, stay out." I narrowed my eyes at him and pointed out a finger. I don't know if my warning encouraged or discouraged him.
With that said, I left. On my way there, I picked up a few flimsy twigs and quietly entered the red tent I knew was Jake and Ryder's.
Jake was sleeping with his forearm covering his eyes and the other arm arched over his tummy. He looked uncomfortable but in deep sleep. Seriously, were his ears clogged with cotton or was he slowly losing his hearing abilities?
I took the twigs and gently ran it over his face, merely tickling.
He tried swatting it away at first but then let it go.
"Jakey, the spider will eat you." I whispered and that got him jumping up in the sky."Where? Where?" He exclaimed picking up a shoe in his hand and hugging a blanket.
He looked like a small kid fighting imaginary monsters, the blue blanket his shield and the shoe-his survival weapon. He slowly calmed down and looked at me giggling in the corner.
"You!" He came towards me, when I quickly got out of tent still looking back, making me crash into someone in no time."What the hell?!" The person yelled out.
I turned around and Vince glared back a me with coffee dripping from his white t shirt. My eyes lingered longer than they should've as the cloth stuck to his muscled body."I am so sorr-" I started but he held up his hand in exasperation.
"Just leave it, Jinx." He walked back the say he came with his hand reaching in his pocket and bringing out a pen he held on to. It was weird seeing his clip and unclip the pen, as he retreated back."Whoa, karma works fast." I heard Jake chuckle from behind me but somehow I was still stuck in the moment. Vince looked so tired of life, he didn't seem like a reckless teenager but a boy who grew up too soon, too fast.
"Jake, I'll just come, I forgot my phone in the tent."
"Be careful for the rest of the trip, Mel, I ain't going nowhere." He laughed the fake evil laugh as I shook my head at his antics.
