An Almost

"Say it."

"No."

"You know you want to."

My hands were crossed across my chest as I watched Leo do the dishes and dry them, taking his own sweet time in the process as he shot me a full smirk. He ended up doing most of the cooking, after a few...kitchen mishaps.

"Just because I made a couple mistakes doesn't make you a better cook," I piped up defensively.

"You dumped a shit ton of salt into the sauce-"

"That's cause I slipped!" I squeaked.

"On what?"

"The...kitchen tile!" I pointed at the spot where the incident had taken place. "I swear, there must have been water there or something."

"Excuses, excuses."

I huffed and looked away, my face heating up. He wasn't exactly lying and I was definitely not telling the truth but I didn't need to admit it for his satisfaction, of which Leo had gotten more than enough tonight. His daily quota of getting a kick out of me had hit on all new level tonight.

I had been reaching for the salt in the top cupboard and had managed to get it with one hand when Leo came up behind me and practically blew air into my ear and neck, offering his help. I nearly jumped out of my skin, played Mr. Juggle the Clown with the container and ended up opening the lid by accident, sending all the salt tumbling into the simmering tomato sauce.

It was all his fault. He knew it, and I knew it and yet I couldn't accept it for all the wrong reasons.

"Let's not even get started on the fact that you nearly dropped the sauce later on yourself."

"That's cause you sneaked up on me!"

"I tapped your shoulder May," Leo said calmly with a deadpan expression on his face.

"S-still," I mumbled. Damn it! I was out of defensive comebacks.

Leo dried the last plate and set it down before turning to face me. I was perched up on the counter, right next to the sink where he'd been 'offering his help' as he liked to call it. He was looking at me with an eerie silence that had me feeling a little weirded out.

"Leo?" I raised my eyebrows

"Leo?" I raised my eyebrows. "What is it now?"

"Oh nothing," he mused, drying his hands on a spare towel. "I've just noticed that you've been very jumpy around me for a while."

"It's cause you're a creep," I concluded the conversation on that note and was about to jump off the counter but Leo didn't give me the chance. To be more accurate, he trapped me, stepping up and placing a hand on either side of my waist so that I didn't have space to slide off. "See what I mean?" I threw a hand in the air as if in irritation, trying not to show him how nervous his close proximity was making me. That would just send me laughing.
