EMMA'S POV

*Emma's birthday*

I woke up, bright and early, and went onto Twitter and Instagram to post about my 15th birthday. I couldn't wait.

Sarah was straightening up the living room when I came to say good morning. "Happy Birthday, honey," She said, squeezing me.

"Thanks." I nodded at her, and went into the kitchen to pour myself a bowl of cereal.

"Wait, Emma! I made you breakfast," Sarah yelled after me, and I saw the bacon and sausage patties on the counter. I yelled a "thank you" at her and took the plate.

I sat at the bar, eating, when I heard I heard some shouted profanities coming from outside.

"Goddamn piece of shit!" loud banging sound "Ahhh turn on, damn it! Fuck, fuck..." Then, the sound of a vacuum buzzed.

I turned around to find Brendon with a large vacuum with a tube. He lowered it into the... pool!

Sarah was watching him, too. She opened that back door. "Could you be a little quieter with your morning curses, we have neighbors."

Brendon turned and smiled. "Oh shut up," He said, waving his arm at her. I giggled. I finished my breakfast, and went in the backyard with him.

"Pool?" I asked, excitedly.

Brendon scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah, I was heating it all last week. Thought we could use it during your party."

I hugged him shortly, then let him go so he could finish cleaning it. I watched him with great interest.

*during the party*

I answered the door every time a guest arrived. The first person to come was Nicole. I greeted her with a hug.

"Happy Birthday," she said. Nicole handed me a small wrapped box.

"Thanks," I said, and put it on the table that would become to present table. "Did you get my text?" I asked her.

Nicole nodded happily. "Yep. I brought my swim suit!"

I smiled. "Great! You're the first person here."

Nicole shrugged. "I like being the early one. I usually get more stuff that way. Like that extra donut in middle school."

I laughed. I wanted to agree, but my middle school years were spent being tutored at the adoption center.

A few more people came after that, like Brendon's bandmates and some other friends from school. Turns out that Brendon contacted everybody and told them that it was a pool party, and I didn't even know. He said it was part of my present, but there was more to come.

When we were all gathered in the backyard, Brendon got everybody's attention. Some of the girls that I invited were drooling over him. I knew that he noticed, and his face was just a bit redder than usual.

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls," He started, formally, "We are gathered here today to celebrate-"

"You're making it sound like a wedding!" Kenny shouted. I smiled at Brendon, who looked over and shot Kenny the bird.

"Anyway," Brendon continued, "We are celebrating today the 15th birthday of my daughter," he looked so proud, "Emma."

All eyes turned to me, and I blushed. I waved at everybody. "C'mere," Brendon said, motioning. "You get to jump into the pool, first."

I shook my head in embarrassment. "Everybody's watching..."

Brendon patted my shoulder, and pointed to the pool. Well, fine, then. I took off my flip flops, stepped to the edge of the hot concrete, and looked into the water. I felt everyone waiting for me. I grinned as Brendon yelled, "Before your next party, please!" and I jumped.

The warmish water hit me fast, and I felt a rush of happiness. I liked this, this was nice. I came back up to the top, flipping my hair out of my face. Before I knew it, everyone was coming in after me.

We swam for a while, and soon, it was present time. After everybody got out of the pool and dried off, we went inside to the present table. Again, all attention was on me. It looked like Sarah was videotaping me on her phone.

I smiled faintly at the people who were now surrounding me. I grabbed the first gift. There was a card attached to it, and I opened it.

Let's have fun and laugh and play,

Happy birthday to a special girl.

Let's all dance

As we shout hooray!

Love, P!ATD

It was a corny-ass card, but I laughed out loud when I saw that the word "hooray" was crossed out and said, "HALLELUJAH!"

I ripped at the wrapping paper on the box under the card. I pulled out a black and red jacket. It was like those athletic jackets you get at school with the letter and pins and stuff. Sewn on to it was the Panic! P, and the front had "Emma" sewn fancily. I turned it to the back and saw "Urie" patched on in bold letters.

I was speechless. "It's... so cool," I finally said after minutes of silent choking.

"Glad you like it," said Dallon, as the whole band, including Brendon, came up to hug me.

I opened a bunch more presents, getting things like clothes and different coloured beanies. Nicole gave me a pair of cool black earrings.

Finally, I had a present for Brendon and Sarah. It was a season pass to Disneyland. I hopped up and ran into their arms. "Thank you so much!"

"Now we all have them, and we can go together," Brendon was saying. I was focusing on the warmth of his body.

*later at night after the party*

I was with Brendon, sitting outside by the pool. It was a warm, yet breezy night. The stars were peeking out, and I felt really calm.

I watched as Brendon got out a joint. He lit the weed and put it to his lips. Smoke was wisping through the yard, curling and floating along, until it faded away slowly.

He held one out for me. "Wanna smoke?"

I don't know what it was, but something in me was really hesitant. Did I want to smoke? I'd never done it before, and I was kind of nervous. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea, or not.

"Um..." I thought of an excuse. "I... well, I don't really feel like it right now..." I trailed off, and I knew that Brendon was going to question me.

"Do you...not like weed?" he asked in an unsure tone. "Because, I won't force you if it's not your thing."

I nodded slowly. "I've never smoked before," I said, quietly.

Brendon smiled. "It's not hard. Weed's non addictive."

"I know, but, I... I just don't know." I was beginning to feel agitated, and I think Brendon could tell how tense I was getting.

"I understand, Emma. No one's forcing you." He reached over to rub my shoulder. "Don't tighten up so much. You have no reason to be that tense. You know I'm here, and I'm not going to make you do shit you don't want to do."

I nodded at him. "I know."

He sighed, blowing out smoke again. "It's not your time, I get it. Someday, though."

I looked back at him. "I thought you said you wouldn't make me."

"I know," Brendon said, turning the joint around in his fingers. "But I know that some day, you'll do it on your own, and I won't have to make you."

I knew he was right. I sighed, and looked up at the stars.
