♤Unknown POV♤
☆Sights and Sounds☆
The sun was starting to retreat behind some clouds that decided to pay the boys a visit. It was gradually getting colder as they made their way up the path. Every once in a while a small twig would break or the sound of a rock hitting a tree would echo through the woods. Everything seemed fine until they couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. No one entertained the idea because they knew it would only make them more paranoid than they already were.
Further down the path, the sounds of a waterfall could be heard. They knew about the waterfall but always thought it was a little creepy. This was because of a cave that was behind the rushing water. Himchan's parents said that it lead to a cave system that miners used to work in. But after a series of strange events happened the mine was closed. That didn't make the boys not enjoy the peaceful sounds of the water falling, though.
When they arrived at the bridge, which covered the river that the waterfall fell into, they stopped to take in the sight. "I never get tired of seeing this." Yongguk sighed in relief. Everyone silently agreed with what the oldest said. The peace was short-lived, though. "Does it feel like we're being watched to you?" Jongup whispered to Junhong. He didn't want to freak Daehyun and Youngjae out more than they already were.
Youngjae however, was worried about the other three not believing them about what happened on the lift. Nothing about this trip felt right to him. Dae felt as of he was along for the ride. He didn't know what to think about anything at this point. He looked over to the waterfall and tried to get the day's events out of his head. This was a remembrance trip and nothing more.
"Yea. It does have that feeling. But who would be watching us?" Junhong whispered back to Jongup. The two looked back to the waterfall taking in its sights before they left to the lodge.
"Umm. Guys, please tell me you see that too." Youngjae pointed a shaky finger to the ledge by the waterfall. Everyone looked to the area but there was nothing to be seen. "What are we supposed to be seeing Youngjae?" Yongguk asked. His tone came off harsher than he meant. He knew this by how Youngjae flinched a little.
"It... it looked like Himchan." Youngjae looked to the ground. He knew how crazy he sounded. He thought that he would for sure be sent home. Yongguk nodded at the younger. He knew this trip would be hard but he didn't think that it would affect anyone in this way. "Okay. I believe you. Let's just get to the lodge." He said while placing a hand on Youngjae's shoulder.☆Proof☆
"Okay, I went. I looked. What was I supposed to see?" Himchan went into the cave again. He looked to the shadow that took the form of a man.
"Youngjae can see you." The shadow replied while motioning to the entrance.
"Okay, but what does that prove?"
"Noone was supposed to be able to see you!"
☆Settling In☆
"Aaannd. We're in!" Yongguk cheered. Apparently, he forgot how locks and keys worked because it took him three tries to get the darn thing open. Collective cheers could be heard from all. "And this, kids, is how not to open a lock," Junhong said in a car salesmen voice. "Oh, can it! You're the youngest one here." Daehyun said in a fake rude sounding voice. All of them were about to bust a gut because they were laughing so hard.
Silently they were all glad humor could be found. Mainly because nothing has gone as planned this afternoon.
"Let's get the lights on in this place because I would like to be able to see where I'm going," Jongup said while heading to the nearest light switch.☆The Strange of Night☆
The sky was beautiful. It was setting with many warm reds and oranges. It was different than the purples and blues of autumn. Clouds scattered across the sky not ever hinting at rain. It was pleasant and for this Yongguk wanted to go out and walk a few trails. Only, no one wanted him to go alone. This is completely reasonable considering what happened last time someone was alone. So while Yongguk was making his was out the door Junhong ran along to catch up and go with him. Yongguk sighs knowing that they all did not want him to go out alone. He placed an arm around the younger leading him out of the lodge and into the sweet bliss of nature.
"Now that they are gone. How about we do some unpacking?" Youngjae asks while motioning to his belongings.
Junhong and Yongguk had made it not even twenty steps from the lodge before the silence was broken. "I'm glad you decided to come with me." Yongguk softly spoke to the younger. It had been a long day and everyone was wired up. Youngjae really freaked them out back at the waterfall.
"Me too," Junhong whispered before the two fell back into a comfortable silence.
~
It hadn't been five minutes since Youngjae, Daehyun, and Jongup went to go unpack and now Youngjae is hearing things. This thing just so happened to be the sound of a falling picture frame. So by curious nature, Youngjae went to go see what it was.
As he made his way down the stairs he could hear someone almost crying. He took a shaky breath while mentally preparing himself to comfort his sad friend. When he reached the bottom of the stairs he did not see Daehyun of Jongup but he saw Himchan!?
~
"What do you think the others are doing right about now?" Junhong asked while trying not to sound like he was whining. He was not bored by any stretch of the imagination but he was getting tired. Yongguk said something about them unpacking and went back to listening to the leaves rustle and crickets chirp.
It was starting to get dark enough they needed a flashlight so the pair decided to head back to the lodge. That was until they heard a rumble.
~
"Himchan?" Youngjae whispered. He had no idea what to think. There was his friend, who had been assumed dead, just sitting on the sofa sniffling over a broken picture frame. Who wouldn't be paralyzed from pure shock?
The figure turned around. It was Himchan. "Youngjae." He sighed in relief while getting up from the sofa. There were no words that could be said. No actions that could be done. Youngjae just stood and stared unable to process that this was real. Himchan walked over to him and just hugged onto him. He understood the feeling he must be having at the moment. Youngjae finally moved and wrapped an arm, well both, around his friend. It had been a year. One whole year since that horrid day. All the looking for Himchan had not been in vain. Youngjae was almost sobbing when he heard a concerned voice from up the stairs. " Youngjae? Are you okay?" It was Daehyun. Of course, it would be Dae to worry about him. Mainly because they both have been though supposedly the same events of the afternoon. Youngjae let go of Himchan for a moment to turn and respond to the voice that called to him. He took maybe three steps and saw Daehyun standing at the bottom of the stairs. "It's Himchan. He's alive! He's back!" Youngjae said a little too happily. Who wouldn't be that happy, though? Youngjae pulled Daehyun to the living room where he had just been with Himchan. Only, no one was in there. "Daehyun I swear he was just here. He was sitting on the sofa and has accidentally broken a picture frame. See?" Youngjae said while motioning to a nonexistent broken picture frame.
"Youngjae, maybe you need sleep. It has been a long day. And this is most definitely a stressful one." Daehyun said in a calming voice while wrapping his arm around Youngjae. He led him up the stairs to his room to help I'm get settled in. "But... he was here. He spoke to me. Hugged me." Youngjae said. He sounded broken. All Daehyun could do was hold the poor boy.
~
Junhong was running. Running like his life was in immediate danger. It wasn't his life that was in danger it was Yongguk's. He had fallen. Both knew now what had claimed Himchan. It was unstable ground and the bet that it was over the mining tunnels.
Junhong made it to the lodge in record time and busted through the door. It's lucky to still be working. "Yongguk is in danger!" This got everyone's attention. Jongup was the first of the three down the stairs followed by Daehyun and a shaking Youngjae. "What happened?" Daehyun was the quickest to speak.
"It was like the ground opened up and ate him. There was a hole. I could see him. He told me to go get help so I came here. There has to be a ladder of some sort." Junhong panted. Jongup knew exactly where to look to find what they needed.
