Melanie opens the door a little and turns her head into the room to see Trinity sitting up on the bed with her green teddy bear in her arms whilst she watches a show on the telly. Melanie stands at the door a little longer just staring at the family she walked out on four years ago. She feels a nudge on her arm and she turns to see Harry standing in front of her biting his lip and pushing his hair back.
"Can we talk before you go in there?" Melanie looks between Trinity in the hospital room and Harry in the hallway. She really wants to ask him if it could wait because she really must wants to talk to Trinity, but at the same time she knows whatever Harry wants to talk about is on the topic of Trinity and she wants to hear what he has to say, so with a few more moments of silence she closes the door and nods toward Harry. They both take a seat in the chairs across from Trinity's room and Harry turns his chair so he's facing Melanie. "I just want to let you know that Trinity is just like Niall. She gets attached fairly quickly, so if you go in there and tell her who you really are, which she already has an idea of, then be ready to be back in her life completely because the lads and I hate seeing her upset when people leave." Melanie takes all of this information in and sighs.
"You brought someone into her life and they left. Didn't they?" Harry shakes his head lightly.
"Not exactly." He lays his elbows on his knees and leans on his arms. "Liam was dating someone after we finished in the X Factor. They were together for a long whilst, up until recently to be honest. Her and Liam were practically inseparable and when she met Trinity, she fell in love. Whilst Trinity was growing up, Danielle was always there to help her and Danielle easily became Trinity's favorite 'aunt'. Things got complicated between Liam and Danielle and they ended up breaking it off mutually. Trinity noticed that Danielle stopped coming around and she got really upset. So upset that Niall was getting worried about her.
Since then, we've tried to keep her away from fans and people of management and any one who we know won't stay long in our lives. So, if you go in there, you better be ready to make a commitment to not only Trinity but Niall as well because at the end of the night he's the one who has to deal with an upset four year old." Harry sends Melanie one last look before standing up from the chair and making his way toward the elevator He exits the elevator on the floor he needs and heads toward the cafeteria. He quickly finds where the lads are and takes a seat beside Louis.
"Where'd you go Harold? We were worried about you." Harry gives Louis a side smile before taking one of his crisps and eating it before replying.
"I just went to talk to Melanie. I told her the truth. If she planned on walking in there and telling Trinity who she is then she has to be prepared for commitment because Trinity gets attached easily." Liam sets down his drinks and he goes sullen.
"You brought Dani up, didn't you?" Harry sends Liam an apologetic smile.
"She needed to know the effects that were caused. Dani has known her the longest, so it would be the best example. I'm sorry."
"No. It's alright. Melanie needed to know what happens if she sticks around for a few days and leaves." During the conversation, Niall quietly stands up from the table to answer a phone call from an unknown number.
"Hello?"
"Mr Horan?"
"This is him. May I ask who's calling?"
"This is Nurse Loraine from the sixth floor. I'm Trinity's new nurse for the rest of her stay. I just wanted to call you and tell you that you are being requested by your daughter. Nothing serious, but she says she feels lonely up here by herself." Niall bites the inside of his cheek in anger. Of course Melanie would leave. He takes a little breather before answering.
"Of course. Could you tell her that her dad and uncles will be up as soon as we can."
"Of course."
"Thank you for calling." They say their good byes before Niall takes a seat in one of the chairs outside of the cafeteria. How could she leave like that? She seemed so persistent to meet Trinity, but she just leaves? Niall shakes his head before standing up. She had her chance, but she ruined it. I'm done being Mr. Nice Guy. I'm not letting my daughter down just because her 'mother' doesn't want to meet her. Niall thinks to himself. He walks back into the cafeteria and over to the table with the lads.
"Hey Nialler. What's wrong?"
"Trinity's nurse called me. She wanted to tell me that Trinity wants us back upstairs with her because she doesn't like being alone. Melanie never went into the room." The four lads nod, knowing that Melanie ruined her only chance to actually meet Trinity, and make their way toward the elevator with Niall up to Trinity's floor. After some time, the five lads finally make it to the floor they need and make their way to Trinity's room. They stop outside the door when they hear Trinity talking to someone.
"You have a big family don't you?"
"Yeah. I have my daddy, gammy, pappy, uncle Greg, aunt Denise, my cousin Theo, Uncle Liam, grammy Karen, pappy Geoff, Ruth and Nicola, Uncle Louis, nini Jay, Lottie, Fizzy, Daisy and Phoebe, and Ernie and Dori, Uncle Hazza, mimi Anne, and Gemma, and baba, nana Tricia, Doniya, Waliya, and Safaa. My nini Jay is seeing someone, but I don't know him yet." The lads hear the other person laugh a little.
"That is a big family."
"Oh! I can't forget Eleanor, Perrie, and Sophia. They are Uncle Louis, baba, and Uncle Liam's dates." Niall knocks on the door, and waits for Trinity to say something. "Come in." Niall walks in and sighs lightly when he sees it's just a nurse with Trinity.
"Hey baby girl. Sorry it took so long. We didn't want to disturb you whilst you were talking." The nurse stands up from the chair and smiles at Niall.
"I'm Nurse Loraine. We spoke on the phone." Niall nods his head toward the nurse.
"Yes, we did. I hope she's been behaving." Niall looks at Trinity who gives him a smile with a nod.
"Yeah. She's been great. She was telling me about her family. It's pretty big." Louis walks over and slings an arm over Niall's shoulder.
"It is pretty big, but I can think of something bigger." He shows off a smirk and Liam is quick to cover Louis's mouth before he says anything else.
"Don't you dare say anything else Louis." Louis removes his hand and gives Liam a look.
"I was going to say our fan base. Get your head outta the gutter mate." Loraine laughs at the lads.
"I see why my little sister likes you guys. Anyway, I'l let you guys keep her company. I'll be back around later with a doctor to see when she's able to go home." Loraine leaves the room and the five lads all take a seat around Trinity. Whilst talking about going home, to the next time Trinity will see gammy and pappy next, to whatever they could think of. Around dinner time, Niall is in the cafeteria with Liam getting food when he receives a text from Melanie.
I'm so sorry Niall. I really wanted to actually meet her, but I couldn't handle the pressure of just leaving her after today. I still have a life in Milan, and after everything Harry told me, I didn't want to disappoint her. I truly am sorry. Please forgive me.
Niall reads the message before scoffing loudly enough to catch Liam's attention.
"Something wrong Nialler?" Niall shakes his head before sighing.
"Nope. Wrong number." Liam continues on whilst Niall stays in his place to answer back.
Forgive you? I don't think so. You had one chance and you blew it. Don't try to see or speak to any of my family and that includes Louis. I've tried to be nice and civil for Trinity's sake. Hell, I gave you a chance to be with her alone. You've left twice now and that's that. Don't expect to ever see my daughter. You have no relation to her at all. Goodbye Melanie. I hope you enjoy your life without us. I'm officially done with you.
