I asked, "What's up?" I shoved my hands in my pockets. Some kids ran by laughing and giggling.
Izzy said, "Leave Fern alone here. He's going through some heavy stuff right now. Some things he needs to do alone, ya know."
I agreed, "Sure. But, I just wanted to know what was going on."
She laughed, "Jesus Brima. If it's one thing I know is going to help them is space from others unless they come to you. Anyways, what I really wanted to talk about was your training. I think I'm going at it wrong. You need a magic teacher. I...I can't help you there. I can teach you to sneak but your weapon will be your spells. A fireball from a dark corner if you will. So, no more bow and arrow training, I'm sorry."
I smiled and sighed with relief, "Thank you. I'm sorry, I'm just not good at it. I'm comfortable with my spells."
"Good, we will be doing more exercises then." She told me with her nose in the air proudly.
I rolled my eyes and then a sudden wave of curiosity went over me, "What are humans like? Are they different from elves?"
She took a deep death and thought about this. It seemed to discomfort her to talk about her own people. She started to seem more reserved. She still had a smile on her face. Out of all the ball of emotions she thought she could hide, she still was smiling. She put her hands behind her back, "Humans are like a big bag of mixed berries and nuts. We love peace, but find honor in war. We can be passive but then on a moments notice turn into a raging animal. We want to love, but friendships can be broken in about one sentence. We are frail, but once when see that, will keep fighting anyways. Some of us believe in God and some believe in science. Some hate elves and some are just as curious as you. It takes time for us to understand something and/or someone. Elves are more open and will willingly accept most. Accept the pure elves. But, even they tolerate somethings and show they are coming to a new age of understanding. Humans will hold onto hard set ideals for centuries just because of stubbornness. Not all are like me. Have you studied humans history?"
I nodded, "I have. We have some similarities, but with humans there is a certain confusion I get from them. It seemed like they will never be happy."
She shrugged, "You may just be right."

The next morning...
It's sad how strange the wood elves seem to me. This used to be what the huem elves were. Living closely with natural forces. I sat on my bed and looked out at the town. What a way to live. It's so peaceful and safe. How could have they survive what is to come? The children I see running around were so naive and innocent. I started to think of my own brothers and I realized something. The last time I talked to him, we had a fight. I searched through my bag and found my father's journal. I read through the pages of the childhood he spent with us. Then I got to a page explaining something when I was about ten or eleven.
Today Brima and Adien had a fight over a mutual friend they have. They were jealous of each other and wouldn't speak the whole day. I took Adien with me to the lake without Brima so I could try to get what he was thinking. Brima wasn't happy about this though. Maybe she'll understand sometime. He told me about the fight and how he was mad that she always takes things from him. Understandable. I was adopted, and I never had a brother or sister, but I think I understand. To be honest, they will get over this. They are so close to each other no matter how much they fight. They both care for the other. What more could I ask out of their relationship as siblings? One day I hope when they start making life changing decisions in life they will keep in mind that they remember how much they love, care, and support each other. They might always understand, but I hope, by the creator they do not stop being brother and sister. When I'm gone, and so is their mother, they will only have that bond so we live on in them.
