Levi sat at the table, moodily stirring his cereal as he watched his mum clean the dishes.
"Mum.. When's dad coming home?" He groaned, letting his fork drop out of the bowl. And watching his mum come over to clean it up.
"When he's home, Levi.." she said softly, smiling as she ruffled his hair.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Levi jumped from his chair and ran to the door.
"Farlan!" He said, in a chirpy voice.
"Hey Levi. Isabel is ill today.. but.." he moved away from the door frame revealing a small girl, with golden hair and warm amber eyes, she was nervously twiddling her hair, and she was so shy, she couldn't even talk. "I had to bring my mum's friends daughter.. Petra.." he scoffed, the happy expression disappearing from his face.
Petra looked at Levi and then Farlan. They both stared at her. Farlan, blankly. But Levi's eyes lit up at the sight of her, suddenly, a fish of wind blew, it was strong, strong enough to knock over the fragile girl, making her drop the doll she hid under her coat, as Farlan helped her up, Levi got the doll."Here!" He smiled "I believe this belongs to you!"
She blushed as she took it from his hands.
His smile was wiped from his face "it's ok to talk. You know! We're not gonna hurt you!" He bent down to her level and looked her in the eyes.
"My name's Levi! Pleased to meet you!" He laughed. Making her smile brightly, this made her even prettier than she was before.
"Come on then you guys!" Farlan called, already steps ahead without then even noticing. He was leading then to an abandoned passage he found, he thought it lead up to the surface, which he had always wanted to see. As he raced on ahead, Petra and Levi ambled behind, always keeping Farlan in sight. A deafening silence fell on the two of them, Petra looked at the floor, whilst Levi gazed at her, wanting to say something, but not knowing what, maybe she would like to hear a joke? Or maybe a cool fact? I don't know.. Levi thought and sighed silently.
"So.. what do you wanna be when you're older?" Petra asked.. trying to hide the shyness in her voice, but it breaking through in the end.
"I don't know, really.. I just wanna see the surface town.." I said, trying to act cool to impress her, he smiled casually saying those words, secretly thinking about we he DID want to do, he didn't know... Maybe... Be a judge? Or.. a doctor? He didn't know.
"I wanna be in the Survey Corps.." she spoke, surprising Levi.. A lot.
"The Survey Corps?!" Levi asked, obviously questioning her strength.
"Yeah.. my uncle Erwin is the commander.. he's the new commander.. And only because the other one died... but he's the commander" she said, as if he were breaking out of her bubble of shyness. "You think I can't because I'm a girl?" She asked, the annoyance showing in her voice.
"No! No! " He stuttered feeling extremely awkward. "I just.. because.. well.. you're personality?"
"Oh yeah? I bet I could win in a fight right now.." she boasted, looking down on Levi, she was slightly taller than him, but so we're most of Levi's friends. Except Isabel.. for now at least.
"Fine. " He said. Accepting her challenge with confidence that he would win. But he realised that he had to be really good to beat her, she was fast. Not just at attacking bit thinking and defense as well. Under only a minute, Levi was on the floor. Petra smiled sweetly as she looked down at his muddy face.
"You're better than I thought.. You're really good.. I mean.. I wasn't expecting that.." Petra said, trying to encourage him.
"Same with you.." Levi said, standing up and wiping the mud off of his face. He smiled back at her. They realised they should be with Farlan, but that didn't interest either of then anymore, they were more interested in getting to know each other, and exploring the underground city. They spent hours together. Just talking and laughing, and showing off. They didn't realise how long they he'd been together until even the stairway wasn't light anymore, at which point they decided to head back.
"I had a lot of fun with you today, Petra" Levi said, looking into her eyes
"Me too, can I see you tomorrow?" Petra asked, fiddling with a bit of her hair and blushing slightly.
"Sure" he replied, without even waiting for her to look up, "I can't wait" he chirped, as he waved goodbye and ran back home, his mother always taught him that the underground city got dangerous when it was dark, and he didn't want to take the risk of staying out late.
"I'm home!" He shouted as he slammed the door.
"Levi! Where were you!" His mother ran up to him and hugged him tightly, before drawing away and grabbing his shoulders "we were worried sick!" She exclaimed.
"We..?" I replied, it was the only thing I could think to say.
"Yes, your father is home.. early.." she sighed, standing up and facing his dad.
"Dad!" He ran up to him and hugged him tightly, not letting go for at least a minute, his mother, Clara smiled sweetly in the corner of the room, before joining the hug. She had to pry him off his dad's shoulders before she could even begin to lecture him on the dangers of staying out late. All of which he had heard many time before hand.
"I get it and I'm sorry! I just wanna go to bed" I explained, faking a yawn and clambering the stairs to his bed. The truth was he couldn't wait to see Petra again, he loved I hang out with her, probably even more than he did with Farlan and Isabel, in fact. A lot more.
