Cinder's POV

The next day at school, I was taking some books out of my locker when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Turning around, I was greeted by none other than Prince Kai.

"I don't really want to be slapped today, so I'm going to do everything as safely as possible" Kai said while putting his hands up like he was surrendering.

"That's too bad, I'm feeling particularly violent today" I said smiling.

"Well, maybe this will change your mind..." Kai took his phone from his pocket and held it out to me.

"Oh thanks," I said taking it from him, "I'll get to you as soon as possible"

I closed my locker and the two of us walked to class together. Kai seemed kind of distracted, but who could blame him. There's so much he must be wondering about with his dad, his soon to be new business, school, and who knows what else.

"Are you going?" I heard Kai say and I snapped back into reality. Now I was the one that was distracted.

"Going to what?" I asked trying to figure out what I was missing.

Kai pointed to the colorful flyers on the wall that in big letters read 'SCHOOL DANCE!' and in smaller letters had the date and time. It was in 2 weeks.

I frowned, looking around I just realized that these flyers were everywhere. "Were these all here yesterday?" I asked Kai.

"I don't think so. Someone must have set off a flyer bomb last night" he said, "but are you going?" he asked again.

"Umm... probably not- I mean no. No, I'm not going to the dance." I said just thinking of the revolted reaction of Adri if she asked her. 'You? Go to the dance? No, no, that won't do. I'm sure they don't want your type of people to be there.'

"Oh, you're not?" Kai seemed surprisingly disappointed, "Umm... would you change your mind if... if I asked you to go with me?"

I was taken by surprise. Kai wants to go to the dance with me? I was suddenly really glad that I could control my emotions well, or else my face would look like a ripe tomato. I really did like Kai and I actually did want to go with him, but there's no way that Adri and Pearl would allow me to go.

"I'm sorry... I'd really like to but I can't..." I said while looking at the ground and stuffing my hands into my pockets.

Kai sighed, "Ok, but if you change your mind then let me know, because I won't be changing mine"

I fought an oncoming blush as we walked into the drama room and I quickly got into my seat before it could get any worse. A couple minutes later, a substitute walked into the classroom.

"Good morning, class! My name is Mr. Butterfield. Unfortunately, Mr. Greenlee has fallen ill with the plague, so I will be your drama teacher for the rest of the year"

There's was a lot of muttering and whispers going through the classroom. The plague was getting really serious and scientists have yet to find a cure. Every night on the news they release a bigger and scarier number of people that have died than the night before. Nobody knew what do. The country of Luna is still being blamed for the plague, people are saying that they're trying to take over the world and they secretly have the cure for it which is why no one has died in their country yet. But these are all just rumors.

The rest of class was pretty boring, with Mr. Butterfield just making us watch videos and taking notes the whole time. Probably because he doesn't know what to do with us yet. And before I knew it, class was over and I was heading to mechanics.
