BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. Groaning, Peridot slammed the alarm clock, quickly turning it off. She was a week into college, and was now living in a twin dorm with a bunk bed. But, Peridot was the only one who was currently residing in there. Her roommate was late to college, and was going to come today, which meant that she would be meeting her roommate today. Sighing, Peridot put on a black shirt with some loose jeans. She grabbed her alien based backpack, stuffed all of her notebooks that she would need for class, and left her dorm. She went through her day, going through her daily classes: Calculus II, Quantum Mechanics, Astronomy, Technology and a few other smaller ones.

After the day had passed, Peridot sluggishly walked back to her dorm.  When she got to the room, she put the key in, then remembered that her roommate was supposed to come today.  She slowly turned the key and opened her door.  Boy, was she in for a surprise.  She saw a tall, muscular girl with long, messyish white hair lazily slouching on the wall in the bottom bunk, eating some Cheeto Puffs.  The girl glared over at Peridot, and said with a mouthful of Cheetos, "Hey you must be... Peridot.  Right?"  "Y-Yeah." Peridot replied in a shaky voice.  "Nice to meet you.  I'm Jasper."  Peridot walked over to the top bunk, and threw her backpack at the end of her bed.  Glancing at her alarm clock, she started to slowly flutter away into the dream world, and was soon asleep.

The next day...

"THE ROOF IS ON FIRE!"  Peridot yelled quickly sitting up.  "Oops," she muttered quietly. "Just a dream."  Looking at her alarm clock, she yelled, "OH MY STARS IT'S 7:48 I'M GOING TO BE LATE!"  Quickly slipping on a medium green colored hoodie, she grabbed her glasses and her backpack and ran out the door.  She was running so fast that she accidentally bumped into someone, knocking them over.  "Oh, I-I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to-" Peridot started rambling.  "It's okay," the girl she hit said, standing up, then helping Peridot up.  Peridot fixed her glasses, and said, "Thanks," then walked away.  When she got to class, she noticed that the girl she had bumped into was in her class, sitting a few rows in front of her.  She had blue hair, and a crop-top with a long skirt.

Suddenly, the professor, Yellow Diamond, called on the blue-haired girl.  "Lapis," Yellow Diamond called out in her stern voice.  "Please answer number 48 in your text book."  Lapis perked up, then looked down at her textbook.  "Uh," She murmured, loud enough for the class to hear.  "Is it... 38.6?"  "Not even close."  Yellow Diamond said, glaring down at Lapis.  A bunch of the students laughed as Lapis sank down into her seat  "Please pay attention.  Can anyone help Lapis?"  Peridot raised her hand, not just knowing the answer but wanting to show off a little.  "Peridot.  What is the answer to number 48?"  "134.8 repeating." Peridot said with a grin of accomplishment on her face.  She saw Lapis glance at her, but Peridot couldn't make out her expression.  "Jealous?  Confussed?  Angry?"   Peridot wondered.  As Peridot started daydreaming about what everyone could be thinking, she saw some students giving her urgent looks and moving their heads, as if they were trying to warn her about something.  Then, she heard an angry yell, "PERIDOT!" next to her.  Peridot's attention flicked back to the real world as she saw Yellow Diamond standing right next to her.  "Y... Yes Yellow Diamond?"  "I was asking you to do the next question," Yellow Diamond commanded, with anger in her voice.  "But you didn't respond.  Can you answer the next question?"  Some students laughed, because it was rare that the smartest person in the class, who was Peridot, would get yelled at by the professor.

Class had ended, and Peridot was now sitting in the lounge room, thinking.  She was still lecturing herself about not paying attention in class.  "What was I even thinking about?"  Peridot thought, still unsure of what had made her lose attention of her favorite professor.  "I was thinking about... that girl.  Her name was Lapis I think...?   I was thinking about what she thought of me... why?"  Peridot was very self conscious, because she had been teased a lot in her elementary years, and had scar down her arm because someone had purposely pushed her into a shallow river with sharp rocks.  But Peridot knew that that wasn't why she was thinking about Lapis.  So what was this feeling... deep inside her heart?  Her thoughts were soon interrupted by the one and only Lapis.  "Hey, you were the one that bumped into me this morning!" She said, leaning on the side of the chair I was sitting in.  Peridot's face soon flushed a bright pink as she thought about the embarrassing moment that had happened earlier.  Right then, Jasper walked up, and started talking to Peridot when she noticed Lapis.  "Ooooh, who's this Peri?"  Jasper cooed while scanning Lapis.  Peridot immediately flinched to the nickname Peri, and quickly said, "Please don't call me Peri."  "Are you guys in a relationship?" Jasper said teasingly, making a kissing face at Peridot.  "NO!"  Peridot screamed, glaring at Jasper.  "I'm NOT gay!"  "If you say so.  I've only known you for like, half a day, and I've already noticed that you act kind of gay."  Jasper said, losing interest in the conversation.  "Well, maybe that's... my personality."  Peridot snapped, then stood up.  "I'm going to lunch."

Again Peridot sat at the same table she had been sitting at for the past few days, and looked at where Jasper was sitting.  She had only been in college for a day and she was already into the "popular" group.  Peridot sighed, and looked around her empty table, enjoying the peace but also wanting someone to talk to.  She put her head on the table, not feeling hungry.  She usually didn't sleep well, and sometimes spent most of the night playing video games.  Peridot was starting to doze off when she heard a voice behind her.  "Not hungry?"  Peridot quickly turned around to see Lapis, with a plate of food in her hand.  "Not really..." Peridot replied.  Turning away from Lapis.  Peridot didn't want company, and especially didn't want to sit next to the girl who had been troubling her since the morning.  But no matter how hard Peridot wished that Lapis wouldn't sit next to her, she did anyways.
