"Kathleen."I snapped out of my thoughts to look up. Amy sat a bit further away from me, with a smile and engrossed eyes.
It had been about a half an hour since we've arrived at the restaurant of the Anders choice.
So yes. I made it out alive and conscious.
I looked away from the hem of my dress to silently question her motives of approaching me. Ever since we'd arrive, the adults had engaged in small talk and so did the rest. I had chosen to silently sit and stare at my dress as though it was the most fascinating thing on the planet.
"What would you like to do when you attend college?"She asks, completely curious."You're dued next year right?"
With everyones sudden attention being brought to me, I felt a sense of hesitation on my reply.
"Uhm. Well I'm not exactly sure Mrs Anders."I replied as truthfully as I could.
"Please."She waves me off."Call me Amy. I feel old when referred to as Mrs."
No matter how true it is? But honestly that has got to be the most overused statement ever.
"It's not polite to lie, Kathleen."My mother scolds."She is going to major in medicine and become a neurosurgeon."
I felt my jaw twitch with irritation but I silently sat back allowing my mother to spew out her wishes.
My gaze caught the eyes of Drew and Matty, Drew's jaw twitched noticeably but Matty nodded with assurance.
"I would never have guessed."Amy says, obviously impressed.
"Your IQ level must be quite high."Alec commented.
For a brief moment, I thought of denying the whole issue. I would've tried to get the attention off of me but my mother beat me to it.
"It's approximately higher than 140."
My hands involuntarily clenched itself on my knees, seeking an output of anger. I knew that somehow my breathing had also increased. Despite the anger, I felt the pain building up within my heart.
I unexpectedly caught the gaze of a blonde headed guy. His bright green eyes staring back at me with concern. I quickly turned away from his answer-seeking gaze.
"Hey mom. Have you heard Hayden and Dennis are coming to visit for a week."
My head snapped up with such haste that I'm surprised I haven't gotten whiplash. Camden had managed to catch everyone's attention from just those simple words.
The Anders brothers all began to get excited, Amy explained to my mother that they were her older sons away on college.
But Camdens' ulterior motives reached both my heart and my mind.
Had he really...
I caught him winking at me with a small smile. A wave of shock ran through me as I couldn't help but smile back.
The pain that had built up had been replaced with warmth.
He helped me. Regardless of not knowing the story behind it, he had still helped me. And that fact alone had been enough to warm my heart.
About an hour later, we had all still been seated at the restaurant. Desert was now served but quite honestly all I wanted to do was go home and sleep off tonight's misery.
I glanced away from my desert to stare up at the person who accidently kicked my shin. Mason mumbled a quick apology before continuing his conversation with his twin.
