Summer couldn’t have come quicker this year. But as quick as it came is as fast as it went. My mom was relocated from Idaho to New York, so you can imagine the big change. I just got settled into my room which was revolutionized. When I first saw the room it was run down. However my mom knows the right people. She hired an interior designer who completely rehabilitated this room. The wall is a light pink with hard wood chestnut floors. There is a nice pink circular rug in the middle of the floor by the bed. There are pink and green drapes and this beautiful see through desk. I was beyond amazed with the detail. “Rachel.” My mom called me downstairs. I took my time walking down the hall looking at the pictures framed on the wall and the empty boxes and wrapping paper everywhere. I find her in the kitchen and sit on the stool. “So…School starts tomorrow,” She began. “Are you nervous?” I didn’t hesitate to answer. “No.” I shook my head. “They are strict there, so make sure you pay attention. Oh and try to make some new friends.” She was always on my back about being antisocial. Saying how I can be shy. Truth is I am so far from being shy. I just don’t share with everyone. I had friends back in Idaho and those are all the friends I need.

My day was quiet so far. I hung up some posters and unpacked some clothes. I had to choose the perfect outfit for tomorrow. Not that I cared how I looked , I just want to give off good first impressions. I flipped through clothes and tried on a few tops. I ended up picking this nice white ruffled top with a brown belt wrapped around the stomach and some dark blue capris. I jumped on my bed and stared at the ceiling. Tomorrow was the day. I let out a sigh.

I woke up at 6:12 this morning just because I have to figure out my route. I jumped up hopped in the shower, got dressed, and grabbed an apple. By the time I left the house it was 7:03 A.M. I pulled out my phone to see which subway I should catch. This city is huge. I admire the city map on the wall trying to find the best route. When I made my decision I grabbed a metro card and proceeded onto the train. It only took me three stops until I arrived. I check the time. 7:32 . I walk up the stairs and turn the corner. As I turned the corner I was amazed by the school building construction. It was amazing. Class didn’t start till 8 a.m. , So I had time to get prepared and get my schedule.

I walked into the office and waited for assistance. “Hi, my name is Rachel Barrings. I need a schedule, it’s my first day.” The woman went to the computer and began typing. She handed me my schedule and smiled. “Have a good day dear.”

It was bad enough I didn’t know where I was going. I have walked up and down the hall way at least three times. I think it was obvious too. “Hey are you lost?” I turned around to see this girl with big curly brown hair and eyes to match. She had on a pink V cut t-shirt and light blue jeans. “Yea. I’m looking for…..room 214 AP English.” I looked at each door again. “Oh! I have that class. Here follow me!” She leaded the way upstairs.

“It’s on the third floor?”

“Tricky. I know. It says 214 but they switched rooms last year.”

“oh.”

“I’m Emma.”

“Rachel.”

We walked into class. There were already a few kids there. I grabbed a seat in the middle section. Class was just about to start when…when…he walked in. My body immediately tensed. There were only two seats left. One next to me and one two rows behind me. He must have read my mind because he came and sat next to me. He had slick brown hair with blonde highlights. He was wearing a blue and white striped t-shirt and khakis. He looked about 6’1. Who knows! I just know he is gorgeous. “Welcome to AP English. I am as most of you know Mrs. Mocking.” She turned around and did what all teachers do in movies and TV shows. She grabbed the chalk and wrote her name fiercely. She talked about the basics we would be doing, but I couldn’t focus. I kept tilting my head looking at him. He sulked in his chair, feet spread apart, and his elbow on the desk. I caught myself staring so I made myself focus. What was wrong with me? I mean, I never got all nervous in front of a boy. Mrs. Mocking gave us an assignment to complete for the rest of class.
