Author's Note: This chapter will be short and sweet? Idk you tell me.
“Mom, I’m going to take the car to Drew’s apartment.” I yelled through the bathroom. I brushed my hair back into a high ponytail.
“Ok! Could you also ask his mother about the Christmas meeting?” Mom yelled back.
“Ok.” I walked out the bathroom, and ran down the stairs. I grabbed the keys off the table and activated the garage door. Just as I was about to pull out I saw Chris in my rearview mirror. I checked the time, 3:47P.M. I have time. I turned off the ignition and opened my door.
“Hey stranger.” I ran up and hugged him.
“Hi.” He laughed.
“What’s up?” I shoved my hands in my pocket.
“Nothing. Just haven’t seen you in a while. Ever since that party.”
We talked for at least 10 minutes. I told him what happened between Todd and I. Well, not everything. Really I only told him that my feelings for him are done, and we both understand we are friends. Chris seemed quieter than usual.
“Is everything ok?” I asked.
“I’m good. I just really want to see a movie.”
“If that’s your way of asking me to go with you that sucked.” We both laughed. “But I can’t today! I have to get to Drew’s place by four!”
“It’s 4:15.”
“Oh! I’m sorry! I have to go. But tomorrow is Friday and I’m not doing anything. Do you want to go Friday?”
“Yea! Yea. That’s great. It’s a date.” Chris smiled and jumped in his car.
“I know I’m late! I’m so sorry!” I fell onto Drew’s desk chair. “ Is your mom here?” I asked while he rambled through papers.
“No, she went out. And yes you are very late!”
“So much has happened today!”
Drew glanced at me then back at his portfolio. His room is very comforting. It fits his personality to the fullest. The walls are a dark blue, with a maroon carpet, and a gold bedframe. His walls were covered with posters, and art work.
“I hope you weren’t late because of him.”
“Of course not. Why would you think that?” I was a little offended.
“You guys looked friendly at gym today! I thought maybe he was giving you another ride home.”
I knew exactly what Drew was thinking. He thought I was with Todd after school kissing him.
“Do you really think that low of me?” I shouted.
“No! I’m just saying you guys didn’t look like you were just friends.”
I jumped up from the bed and crossed my arms. Why would Drew of all people assume the worse of me?
“We resolved things! We talked about how it was wrong and never should have happened! We made it clear that we are friends, and we rather be friends!” I couldn’t stop yelling.
Since Drew was so interested in our conversation, I made sure he knew everything that was said. Why should I explain myself? It’s clear he doesn’t trust me. He thinks that I would try to steal another girl’s boyfriend, and hurt someone like that. Drew ran his hands through his hair and licked his lips.
“I’m sorry…I never thought of you like that. I just don’t want you hurt.” Drew spun in his chair turning to face the door.
“Thank you.” I knew he meant well, so how could I be mad. He just wants to help. His method sucks, but he wants to help. I couldn’t help but laugh. The best part about Drew is when I laugh he laughs too, but we don’t stop.
“So, where were you?” Drew picked up a pencil and started sketching on his pad.
“I was outside my house. Chris came by to talk.”
“Oh.” Drew’s voice cracked.
I knew Chris was a sensitive subject around Drew. He hated the guy. He says because he’s too cocky and lies.
“What did he want?” Drew asked.
“He just wanted to talk. I told about what happened with Todd, except the kissing part, because his sister. Then, I think he was trying to ask me out or something.” I smiled to myself.
“I don’t want you going out with him.” Drew turned the chair to face me.
“Why not?” I raised my eyebrows, interested to hear his explanation.
“Because I don’t want you to!”
“Since when does that have control on what I do?”
“I don’t want to argue about it. Just don’t date the guy!”
“What if I want to date him?” I sat on the edge of the bed.
“So now you like him?” Drew chuckled.
“No. I don’t like him. I don’t think I do…but that’s not the point! You don’t know him. And you have no right to tell me who to date!” I got up from the bed and grabbed my jacket and bag. “I think we’re done for today. I’ll see you tomorrow.” I started for his door.
“Wait!” He jumped in front of me. “Don’t go. I’m sorry! I just don’t want you to date him… I don’t want you to date anybody.” Drew stared me in my eyes and took a big gulp.
I took my palm and rested on his cheek. He closed his eyes. I wasn’t sure what it meant. Maybe he was jealous. Maybe he thought I would be too busy with a guy to pay him any attention. I didn’t want him to feel that way.
“Drew.” I said slowly, making sure to keep my voice low. “You will always be my friend.” I smiled, but when he opened his eyes he was not. I removed my hand from his face.
“I don’t want friendship.” Before Drew could speak any further his mom came home.
“Drew! I’m back!” His mom yelled down the hall.
Still looking me dead in the eye he shouted back to his mom “Ok!”
