After class was over I headed to my locker. Low and behold guess who was there. Todd. Well his locker is just three away but technically next to mine.
“Hey.” He closed his locker and zipped his book bag.
“Hi.” I fished through my locker for my notebook.
“So how are your classes?”
“You’re asking me about school?”
“Yes.” He laughed.
“It’s fine.”
We walked down the hall out the school building. Except, Mary is not out here.
“You want to go to Starbucks?” Todd jingled his keys in the air.
“Um, Yeah.” I needed to get some fresh air anyway.
We hopped in his car and drove down the road. Once we made it inside the Starbucks, there were only seats in the far back behind this cloth curtain.
“You know, we never talked about you before. Where are you from? Why did you move here?” He placed the mugs on the table.
“I’m from Idaho. I’m moved here because my mom’s job.”
“Where’s your dad?”
My dad. The man out of the picture.
“Oh. We don’t really talk anymore.”
“Oh, what happened?”
“I really don’t want to talk about it.” I gripped my cup tightly.
“Okay. We don’t have to.”
“Tell me about you.” I insisted.
“Well, I live with my mom and brother. I grew up here in this crazy city. I’m a Libra. My favorite color is red, and I wear socks to bed.”
We both laughed.
“That’s why I use to have such a huge crush on you.” I said in my head, except I didn’t.
“Did I say that out loud?” We were silent for a while. “I’m so sorry. I should go.” I grabbed my jacket and bag.
