It’s been days since Thanksgiving. I still have not talked to Chris. I guess we’re avoiding each other. But I have to get to the bottom of this.
“Hello?” Chris picked up.
“Hey, are you busy?”
“No.”
“Can you meet me outside?”
“Um…Yeah. I’ll be out there in ten minutes.”
I grabbed my sneakers and jacket. I darted down the stairs and yelled to my mom where I was going. “Be careful. It’s getting dark.”
I sat on the pavement until he showed up.
“Hey stranger.” I tucked my hands in my hoodie with my hood on.
“Hey.” Chris let out a sigh.
“Where have you been?”
“School, home.”
“I don’t want our friendship to end just because you made a mistake. Okay?” I rushed out.
“I don’t either. I don’t know what happened, and I want you to forget it. Okay?” He clenched his palms.
I can see how stressed he is. I touched his hand, loosening his palm.
“Already forgotten. Now that that’s settled, tomorrow we’re going to a party.”
“Oh, I don’t know.”
“Please?” I put on my puppy dog eyes and pushed out my lip.
“Okay. Okay. Where? What time?
“I’m not sure. Drew will pick us up around seven.”
“Oh, great! Drew.”

What should I wear? I don’t want to be underdressed or over. I pulled through my closet, tugging on dresses and skirts. Maybe a black dress. I grabbed my black dress. It was perfect. Simple and pretty. I just don’t like how it is skin tight. It hugs my body. However I am running out of time and options. I took the dress off the hanger and stepped into it. I flat ironed my hair and threw on some bracelets. I heard a honk outside. I ran to the window. Drew is parked downstairs. I put on my coat zipping it up all the way.
“Hi. Oh, we have to wait for someone.” I pulled the car door handle.
“You invited someone?”
“You didn’t say I couldn’t.”
I clicked my seatbelt. I looked in the rear view mirror.
“Here he comes now.” I point.
“He?”
“Hey Chris. Just hop in the back.” I unlocked the door.
“Um, hey man.” Drew looked at his mirror to get a view of Chris in the back.
“Sup.”
We finally pulled up to the party. It looked like a lot of people. A lot of guys. They seemed out of control. We got out the car and walked in. The music blasted filling my ears with sound waves. We had to push through a lot of people just to get to an area to sit. Most of the people were dancing, so there were some free spots. Once we found a spot I started to unzip my jacket. I didn’t want anyone to see me take it off, it feels weird. I slowly unzipped it pulling one arm out then the other.
