Overthinking

Drew stood in front of me for what felt like forever. What did he mean he didn’t want friendship? I was a little stunned. I never thought of Drew as someone who liked me. I’m just not sure what to think anymore. But maybe he did like me. Uh-oh.

The next day was awful! Having so many classes with Drew suddenly turned into a bad thing. Every time he would look at me or accidently touch me, I had to look at it in a weird way. Now that I thought he liked me, everything he did seemed awkward. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship with feelings, but more importantly I didn’t want to ruin him and Emma. Emma was my friend. How would that look? I mean there’s nothing for her to worry about, because I don’t like him. I traded partners in our classes and made sure to make my distance. But, maybe I was going overboard. Maybe he doesn’t like me and I am just going crazy.

“Hi.” I walked outside the school entrance. Chris was waiting there so we could hang out. I wrapped my coat tightly. Since December was here, the weather was breaking. I have heard of the enormous snow storms in the city. I was excited too! The most snow I’ve ever seen was about 2 inches.

            “Hey gorgeous.” Chris smiled.

Chris makes me feel anxious when he compliments me. From the time at the library he has always known to make me feel good about myself.

“Where are we going to go?” I unwrapped my gloves, placing them on my hands.

“Since that movie we saw was so bad, I don’t think we should see another movie. We could go to Chelsea’s Piers!” Chris suggested.

“Yes!” I smiled and jumped up and down.

We finally made it to the ice skating rink. It was freezing! And I’m not going to lie, I cannot skate. I watched as Chris strapped his laces and pulled up his socks. Chris told me he played hockey for eight years, so hopefully he could teach me. Once our footgear was on he headed for the door to the rink.

“I think I should tell you again… I can’t skate!” He laughed and grabbed my hand pulling me onto the ice. I quickly grabbed on to his shoulder trying to catch my balance.

            “Ah!” I yelped.

            “I got you!” He smiled.

After he tried to teach me the basics, I think I kind of got the hang of it. But of course he was going superfast around the whole rink, so I stayed on the wall while I watched him speed pass.

He would purposely speed up and come to a halt right in front of me to scare me.

“You’re doing great.” He held my waist. He skated backwards moving his hands in a gesture telling me to follow him. I slowly made my way towards him. He laughed at me the whole time.

“Hey! Don’t laugh!” I shouldn’t have yelled because I almost fell backwards until a strong pair of hands held onto me. I smiled gratefully. We stayed there staring at each other for what felt like forever, until he leaned closer. For some reason I didn’t want to pull back. He came closer, and without my permission my body grabbed his face and kissed him. He quickly responded, wrapping his arms around me pulling me closer. At this moment all I felt was body heat. He bit on my lip asking for entrance which I immediately allowed. We slowly parted looking at each other intensely. Wow…

“Chris?” A voice said behind me. I knew that voice too. It was Todd. I slowly turned around, the smile that was on his face was now gone. He quickly covered it though.
